Some of you people might think that EB games are good but they are rip offs. It's because they give bad trade in values. I once wanted to trade my PSP 1000 to them for the PSP Go and they said they will take it for $60 and i had bought it for $300. Same with my brother's DS Lite they said they will take it for $25 and my mum had bought it for $200. What is this this Bush Week? Don't answer that question. And another thing when I was looking at PSP games I walked past the back room of EB Games and I saw a box that had brand new Wii consoles in it that were ready to be put on the shelf. But I saw a sticker on the box that said: eBay Order delivery to EB Games Chadstone Brand New Wii Console with Wii Sports $170. And that was how I knew the wii consoles were new. They buy the stock from eBay and sell them for twice as much!!!!

Some of you people might think that MASSIVE DONGS are good but they are rip offs. It's because they give bad trade in values. I once wanted to trade my medium dong to them for the even smaller dong and they said they will take it for $60 and i had bought it for $300. Same with my brother's pink dong they said they will take it for $25 and my mum had bought it for $200. What is this this Bush Week? Don't answer that question. And another thing when I was looking at dong accessory's I walked past the back room of MASSIVE DONGS and I saw a box that had brand new purple dongs in it that were ready to be put "on" my "shelf". I'm not sure i know how to

also

Shops aren't there to give consumers a good deal. Shops are there to make you pay the highest possible cost you can. It's called having a viable business.

I just pre-ordered GT5 CE @ EB

oh also, if you want the real value of your game you sell it on ebay you idiot
if you want a quick trade in you go to a shop like EB, it's a convenience you're paying for - they have to sell it again at a higher value to make their money back at all, let alone a profit

welcome to the real world

EB is completely and utterly about convenience, nothing else - if you want to sell your game to maximise your return, you have to sell it privately.

I sometimes stroll into EB to see what games have come out and for how much. Then i go inquire at the front desk for 'coming soon' games and how much they're on preorder for. Then I make it sound like i'm interested but i umm and ahhh like i just need a bit of a nudge before i lunge into my impulse purchase. Then i ask about some of their trade in deals and what games are they willing to trade for what price. Then i umm and ahh some more like i need a lil bit of a nudge to make said trade in deal. Then i ask them if they can price match online stores which i know they don't but i ask em anyway. Then I umm and ahhh some more. Then I tell them about UK pal and how much cheaper it is for me to purchase from overseas to which they insist on telling me that they don't work on aussie consoles. Then i umm and ahhh some more to make it sound like i'm not really sure about the whole and thing and then i tell em to f*** off and eat a fat black dick and walk out the store.

Then i stroll into the next EB..

Failed rant.

You have two options:
1) Put in no time of your own, stroll into EB and get a guaranteed albeit lower sale (for absolutely no effort and no risk at all!)
2) Put in some time of your own, advertise your game on Gumtree, eBay, etc, and make a bit more for it but also risk losing your $4 or so when your game doesn't sell for the amount you want.

The only decisions you need to make is whether you want to put any time in of your own and if you want to risk the small posting payment to eBay.

The PSP-1000 is five years old. I wouldn't expect more than 25% by that stage ($75), so $60 seems fair.

i remember going in to eb(they were called electronic boutique in those days.. thats what the eb is for duh!) in the late 90's and walking out with about 5 games for the price of 2 because the sales dude threw in a heap of extra s*** to get the sale.

f*** those were the days.

anyway, in regards to op. Anyone with half a brain cell can tell EB are rip offs.. for starters 99% of new releases are $20 more expensive there then anywhere else. It's understandable, the mark up on games and consoles isn't that high in retail, they don't really sell a lot of other s***, and they generally have 3-4 sales people in each store. It's a huge cost to have a ship like that running, thus they are more expensive, there ideal customers are dumb parents and idiot teens who don't know any better.

Learn to shop around and find the best price, then price match it with EB so you can get the benefits of there 7day return policy.

or f*** the "man" and shop somewhere else.

i personally like making them sell me a game at a reduced cost thinking that im stealing moneys from them.. i like it even more when i return it in 7 days.

yeah i'm kind of in 2 minds about EB, on one hand their s*** is all expensive but then they have sales it's totally worth going in and having a look because some of their sales are really good

i personally couldn't be f***ed with trying to sell games on ebay and s*** and you will only get a small fraction more for it on ebay, unless it's a brand new game. i was kinda pissed when they told me i could only get $30 for God of War 3 which came with my ps3 this was in the store the same day i bought the ps3 which was released not that long ago

also i noticed in jb hi-fi the other day that they do trade in on games too, anyone done this? is it pretty much the same deal as EB

also i pretty much wouldn't pre-order a game ever hey, you can usually go into big W the day it's released and get it for $20 cheaper than EB

Although there's no point in ranting, I also know EB are s***.

I haven't bought anything from EB in a very long time.

There is one thing though: Eb are a great place to browse. Look at a few games, think about their value, settle with the price and head over to just about any other store. Chances are if you're able to walk into an EB you can walk into a k-mart or target and find the exact same game anywhere up to 50 dollars less. And that's if you want the convenience.

If you can hold out for a couple of weeks at most, you can have the convenience of ordering from home and having it delivered to your door, order from somewhere better like game365.

You're a consumer, you have the power to make the decision yourself. Obviously the free market has decided that there is a place for an expensive game retailer with brainless staff who give great recommendations to your mum and dad (sarcasm). I wanted to post a youtube of Marge buying a video game for bart from a recommendation of the shop assistant, but youtube is failing me.

yeah - i remember walking in to target the day before release of some wow expansion and getting the game which was "sold out" in eb for pre-orders, waiting till midday for servers to come online and playing a good 12 hours ahead of the rest of australia's midnight launch. Helped me hit 80 before anyone else. Phew glad i gave up that though.
I like how EB is considered a bad company because they're awesome at buying low and selling high.
I'm shocked that you have failed to see that this is a point of view from consumers making fun of other consumers who fail to make good capitalist judgements on buying the exact same product for the lowest price considering equal availability.

Of course from an investment side it's not a bad model, but that's not what we're talking about is it? Then as an investment you'd probably consider asking why their staff costs so much money considering their lack of competence? Wouldn't it be easier employing a robot who was able to just say each big name game when asked what to buy, and then offer it at a 5 dollar discount if you buy it second hand?

They may not have the authority to change the price. Even if they do have the authority and refuse to change the price out of stupidity, nobody is forcing anybody to buy the second hand copy while the new copy is sitting there at a lower price.

So what's a DS worth after 2 years? They will need to make a profit on both the transactions (buy and then sell), because they are a business. If it dies in 30 seconds after you hand it to them, they need to eat that - which is built into the price they offer you.

Ebay it if you want a private sale price. $25 is what you can walk in off the street and get anytime.

So what is the price you think you should get for it? Ebay, sold.com.au, trading post it for that price.

$25 is what you can get when you walk in off the street for a 2 year old DS, no questions asked. The hock shop price is the lowest you will get for your second hand goods. Why is this news to you? Why are you surprised AT ALL? How old are you?

If that's true then I might have been a bit harsh.

Second hand retailers operate like convenience stores. You can instantly sell your stuff but you take a huge hit in price. A private sale (like ebay) doesn't have as much overheads and profit between the buyer and seller, so the sale price is often more favourable (but the sale is slower).

Its just how it works, if the business model allowed them to make money by giving better prices then someone would open a shop and do just that and steal all the business!

Just a tiny rant on EB here:

A couple years ago, I went into EB to purchase a copy of SC. I had no need for the expansion since a friend had given it to me, so I was in just to buy the original. They had SC for sale, too, just a few copies. I grabbed one and took it to the counter. When iI told the clerk I wanted to buy it, he replied with "sure let me grab a disc for you" and he disappeared into the back of the store.
he came back 5 minutes later and REFUSED to sell me just the original SC by itself, he wanted me to purchase the battlechest. I told him I had the expansion and had no need for the expo + some s***ty SC guide. He still refused to sell it to me even after i told him that i picked up the box for the original, not the battlechest. In the end I told him to f*** off (in a polite manner, of course) and since then i've been very reluctant to shop around at EB.

True story.
Also dragons, ninjas and samurai were present in the store.
EDIT: not really a rant, but meh

I used to go to EB because there was this very VERY attractive guy there that I boggled. But yes they are rip offs, 'GAME' offers better value imo.

I think they get decent guys to work there so they draw girls in and also, there was a russian girl working at my local EB when the MW2 got released last year. She was wearing camo and the guys were instantly googlie eyed. I think they do this on purpose.

it is all about consumerism and a little thing called perceived value. what one person perceives as value will be totally different to what someone else perceives as value. shop around if you don't like what's on offer. EB, or any other store, have no obligation to pay what you think something is worth only what they consider it is worth.
as for this

All it is, is my abiltiy to receive and respond to stimuli.

Edit: Dirty responses allowed.

As an actual gamer and not some dumb parent trying buy something for my kids, i find anyone who comes up to me and talks to me about games to be the most annoying retail experience, female and hot or otherwise.

Not like she would come up and go "Hey buy these other games". I meant she would remember what you had bought and ask if you liked them. Think I completely missed that point in my first post though.

Gametraders at Chermside FTW. They always come in under EB's price.

Still annoying, there was an eb i frequented enough for the guys to remember what i was buying and they started to try pick my taste, in the end i generally make people at eb angry, as im an artist of buying games earlier from other retailers then walking in with my receipt to eb and smashing it on there counter asking for another copy.

Buy it as cheap as you can... sell it an high as you can.

I love how people are still amazed by the concept of trading. 2010 dude... c'mon.

eb games is a company, if you were running eb games and someone wanted to trade something in, you would obviously want to give them the lowest possible offer because you are trying to make $$$ if they are going to give you what it is worth....they won't get far lol, but yeah if you don't like them, don't buy from them or sell go ebay.

See I thought this, so I tried to get EB to match a price JB Hifi had for Forza 3 (JB had $50 EB was $110). They said they wouldn't do it.

I know they match advertised prices.
Some people have said they called and confirmed for non-advertised prices, but I never had that happen.

i remember going into a eb a few months ago and the lady telling me they are no longer price matching jb and big W.

Apparently so many ppl complained and kicked up a stick that they got rid of it.

What a f***in s*** way of doing business

Just jumping on the EB hatewagon.

EB do not match prices.

They claim to match advertised prices locally available and in stock locally, but they will make all sorts of claims if you try to use it on a good price.

I've gone to several retailers that advertise that they'll match or beat prices, it always turns out to be bulls*** when you go there and talk to the sales staff. They spin some s*** about only matching prices with places that aren't selling stuff cheaper than them, which doesn't make sense. Thinking of the "The Good Guys" as a particular example.
A few won't even match the price on their own website, like JB Hifi - "oh we don't control what's on the website..."

Harvey Norman do not price match. They have 110% guarantee which entitles you to a further 10% discount if you see a cheaper price advertised elsewhere and have already bought the item from Harvey's. It's designed for peace of mind, not the savvy discount shopper.

Yeah their mark up on electronic is a bit out there.

I remember my mate and I walked into harvey norman each wanting to buy a laptop, cash. We ran into 2 other mates of our who also happened to be wanting to pick up a laptop, cash. We worked out a good price for each, combined our, cash, got one of us who was born with a mouth to go to a salesman and said: "gimme 300 KRUSTY BURGERS!!" gimme 4 laptops for $3500 CASH!!!". (from memory they were easily close to $1500 each). After much haggling and emphasising the fact that we had, cash, we got the deal that we wanted and even hard extras thrown in. We thought we were high rollers.

It's suprising a lot of you miss the point that EB are a retailer and not a company like 'Cash Converters' where they pro-actively buy to re-sell...

Also the fact that if you have an old game that you dont want anymore because its out of date and the game has lost a lot of popularity... chances are slim to re-sell those games and especially of the graphics are poor and the platform is old (Supply and demand).

Yeah they used to match unadvertised prices at least, remember the guy ringing BIG W and pretending to be a customer to find out the price of bf1942 for me. This was a few years ago mind you, so things may have changed.

On a sidenote, bargain bins + any game 10years old at eb=win for anything else they are a joke. Always overpriced, and sales clerk would not stfu about how awesome he was at wow.

EB has little to nothing going for it! If I was after something in Aust, always go the local Game store. What's wrong with a store that has a points system? I love it! It's like achievements :3

Not a big fan of GAME or EB, even though I once bought all my games from EB. JB hi fi is the way to go. Have traded games before at EB and even though they buy $10 for a game and then sell it for $70, I understand this is business and they need to make money. Once I went to a local second hand shop they offered me $10 for 4 PC games which were up to a year old, I nearly fell on my ass.

^ Are GAME employees now coming in and saying how great GAME is?

EB is alright. I traded in some old DS games for the new Pokemons and they price matched Big Dubs. I know I could get a better price for the games on Ebay or something, but I really couldn't be arsed dealing with ebay.

JB Hifi owns Game and EB at the game selling business at reasonable prices.

OzGameShop owns JB Hifi at selling games at the cheapest price.

Therefor ASIF ever buy from Game or EB.

When after a good deal, it pays to shop around.

I found i can pit EB and JB HiFi marketed prices against them, and always have had the prices matched from EB if in JB and vice versa, some times even saving further 10%, but, saying this, sometimes you just cant avoid the stingy sales rep.
I now mostly shop from JB HiFI nowa days , usually 5-10 dollars cheaper then EB.

OH, and Game, never went there, games over priced, and now my local GAME store has closed shop.

As if pay retail prices. Is it really that hard to wait 1 week and buy a game for almost half price?

The reason why these retail stores charge so much is because people are willing to pay them.

Stop paying retail. Buy online. Send these retail stores a message. If they are not selling they will have to lower their prices or close shop.

Yeah I picked up 'The Witcher' for $7.99 yeah it's old but still a great game I've never played; i stopped paying full retail for games along time ago I shop around for specials or just buy online.
