Reports on twitter, and some news out of the Games Connect: Asia Pacific conference, seem to suggest that Krome Studios will close its doors this Monday.

Gabby you are just the type of poster this forums needs. That is such an informative and witty post. How do you come up with that sort of content? do you have a newsletter or a website or a blog or a youtube channel I could subscribe to? Let me know asap otherwise i won't be able to sleep tonight or get on with the rest of my miserable life.

My personal opinion and I could be wrong, is that the company expanded far too quickly for the work that they had.

Yeah, true however expansion for the sake of expansion is usually fail. It's all about getting the timing right.

Sucks for anyone who is going to lose a job. Hope they find something decent soon enough!

I lost my job recently to oursaucing. Not much fun! (I know it's not the same thing, but it sucks when there ain't much you can do about it)

they expanded too fast in the wrong way, this sucks as well.. Just came back from GCAP and it looks pretty much set that the Aus industry is going to be all iPhone / PSN / Xbox live for a while to keep production up while keeping the costs lower to a broader market .. :|

I'd be the first to say I don't think the females of the species should be getting any special treatment on here, positive or negative, but what does annoy and to me just says 'attention whore' is when girls totally play up that they're a girl. I mean seriously, who puts their ASL in their sig?

Depends. What kind of people get hired for game studios? Would assume they are extremely passionate and capable programmers willing to work for low pay and long hours, which would mean talent.

Its not like they made small, quality titles and were unlucky not to get coverage. Its a rare industry where you can be mediocre and successful.

# Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue, (PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance) (2004)
# King Arthur, (PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube) (2004)
# Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan, (PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance) (2005)

Even then it was only for ps2, wii, and psp.

It sucks to see local dev's close down, had things gone differently the quality of the titles would be much better instead of sequels and movie games.

I think this is actually a pretty decent co-op title back in the day, & it has the craziest camera voodoo trickery in the dungeon level, 63 cameras i recall i placed, god damn two player mode having two players going in two different directions, trigger box madness :D

While I do agree that there's not many real worthy core-games in their stable (although, I'm not ashamed to admit spending way to much time playing Pinata Party Animals), not "giving a f***" is a bit unnecessarily harsh imo. Just because the end products didn't appeal to us, doesn't mean there wasn't a bunch of talented individuals working there that no longer have jobs.

Id figure that studios like krome picked up all the movie titles and what not because it was quick easy cash which could hopefully fund there original content.

Sadly the just got some really really s*** move titles.

yeah, most of krome work was s***. i worked there for 3 weeks before quitting, not worth the commute into the valley for s*** pay. they wouldn't trust me to write my own bugs and the game was as boring as s***.

i might have just been spoilt working for creative assembly though.

I think WetWired was more getting at the fact that there were a lot of people there who were good at what they did, and now they don't have jobs. It doesn't matter what you think of the games, that's still not a nice thing to have happen.

Essentially yes, but you missed the suck a dick part.

You're naive to think that every employee is incompetent if they release a sub par product.

Might I suggest that with titles such as 'Ty the Tasmanian Tiger' and 'The Legend of Spyro' that you weren't Krome's target market at all greazy? SW Force Unleashed, Viva Pinata and Scene It are pretty good and more likely to be picked up by so called hardcore gamers.

Though with comments like "Bulls***. Anything that comes out of Australia will have a 99% chance of being a turd." just as a bunch of talented blokes are forced to look for work in a tough market, I'm leaning towards a suck a dick recommendation as well.

well, you should care when any local business shuts down, because it dumps a bunch of unemployed people into our midst, who then can chew up our tax dollars on unemployment benefits, who then have to struggle to find a job, increasing competition in that industry (and esp when its something like games in which there is already a lot of demand and little supply in this country).

Working at Krome would have been an excellent stepping stone for someone wanting to get into the games industry. Sure, you might not be working on the next Half-Life, but unless you are just ridiculously talented out-of-the-box (and I would guess less than 0.01% of people would fall into this category), you are not walking into a job at Valve Software or Bungie or anywhere else 'cool' as your first job in games development.

The best reason to be sad, of course, is (imho) the purely empathy-driven reason of being able to understand that other people have been affected negatively and you should derive no pleasure from it, because one day, it might happen to you

Here we go again with the Aussie bashing. You did this in another thread as well.
So, where are you from Greazy? and why are you so anti Australian???

We had bought the Spyro games and the Ty games. My wife and kids got many hours of enjoyment out of them.
