Some of you might recall this thread regarding the theft of one of my mate's boat.

Well, the cops busted them.

A highly-organised Gold Coast crime syndicate used the internet to trade stolen boats for sports cars and motorbikes, police say.

Queensland Police's organised crime unit claims to have dismantled the boat rebirthing ring with the arrest of three people.

Investigators allege the trio - two men and a woman - stole luxury vessels from moorings and homes on the Gold Coast, as well as trailers and heavy machinery, which was rebirthed and offered for trade online.

good to hear the cops got them - whenever people talk about the police it's usually negative so i like hearing about when they get it right. might wanna resize that second image though.

Yeah I'm with hogfather on the re-birthing being common but trading them for sports cars & s*** is probably the unique bit.

My boats out of commission for a while :( Been quoted $24k for a new engine... not including the Hydrolic steering that burnt or fixing up some minor charred bits on the hull. Lets hope Club Marine (Insurance) comes through!

Where did they get the top frame thing for the top from? Your mate obviously likes his old boat (before stealing) better? or does he think this new one is better with the modified frame/colours?

that tower is actually of a mastercraft boat, so i would guess it is off one of the other boats the stole and the swapped the towers over, same with the wheels.

i would assume they will remove the tower and the wheels if they can identify the boats/trailer they originally came from. im not sure if my mate will want to keep that tower.

I just don't understand why someone would put low profile tires on a boat trailer, other than camouflage.
