A Rolling Stone reporter, embedded with The 1st Recon Marines chronicles his experiences during the first wave of the American-led assault on Baghdad in 2003.

Haven't watched this yet but I just noticed the first ep is out. Over There was an awesome show so fingers crossed this will turn out to be a good watch as well.

Watched it this evening, thought it was quite promising but a kind of slow start. Seems like it will be pretty character driven once it gets rolling but we're spending a lot of time trying to get to know everyone for now.

Also, I thought 'over there' was complete waste of time. This series is much higher quality everything so far.

Episode 2 is out now. I thought episode 1 was excellent.

Good to see Beecher again.

Yeh I watched Ep1 the other day (On Demand cable ftmfw!); forgot Ep2 was on last night so i'll have to just press a few buttons on the cable box to make it work. Holy s***, the cable TV system here kicks the crap out of having to download everything - all the HBO Shows are just THERE when you want to watch them.

I pretty much agree with what Dan said, Ep1 was pretty slow but looks like they're building towards some cool stuff. As always really sweet production from HBO.

won me over after the first ep, second ones great too... great characters, instant meta-overload, typical of the guys behind the wire (best show ever).. heard it won't run too long, fixed story to get through, but with such good characters it should deliver some good laughs along with the underlying commentary..

the rolling stone writer is a funny angle, that guy played one of the longhaired rocker camera guys in Wayne's World..

the RS dude is Beecher from Oz, he also played a gay fireman in Rescue Me and has been in some law and orders.

i dont think so crazymorton,

from my understanding the show is a mini series, so i wouldnt expect more then this season.

on another note asif you would say the first ep was slow, it was written by the dudes who did the wire and that show was the king of being slow, was still the best show of all time imo.

anyone else watched all of this?

we finished ep 7 last nite and i will say i was quite suprised the direction they went, certainly wasnt what i expected for the show:

will have to find the book and have a read of that, i get the feeling the show skipped over a lot of things that would be covered in more depth in the book

extremely well made show though

I thought they covered majority of events in the book (which wasn't all that long). Enjoyed the series but wouldn't rate it as highly as some past HBO series.

I didn't mind it at all. Was pretty good but I wouldn't rate it super highly.

If you are expecting massive action all the time you will be dissapointed. It is more of a look into the life of a solider living over there just passing the time between retarded missions and the incomptence of officers.

I wasn't expecting all out action, but I was expecting it to go for at least a few more episodes. The whole series just seems so pointless (I'm sure this was supposed to be some kind of metaphor for the whole conflict).

metaphor?

it's a metaphor for the brutality of war and how much suffering the invasion inflicted on the iraqi people. but the army does not care for such ethical issues because it is simply a killing machine, executive orders as instructed.

it's a little complex but it becomes clear if you dwell on it for a little while.

dwell on it.

ok it's not really a metaphor in the technical sense of the word but in the perverted sense of the term Twisted meant that it must have some sort of theme or message there for the viewer.

Metaphors are quite commonly used to convey themes and it is understandable that he confused the two.
