At long last, we are happy to present the first attempt of fully-fledged proper forum searching:

http://www.ausgamers.com/forums/search.php

Features:

- Quick search will search subject/article of all original posts.
- Boolean searching (so you can use Google-esque + and - operators to require/remove search results)
- Advanced search options including:
* quick author name search (so you can throw in, say, 'trog' to find everything I've written about 'quake' for example)
* search subject only or subject/body
* only search first post (on by default)
* some other filters/sorting things

This includes, to the best of our knowledge, the ability to search every single news post or forum post that has been made on AusGamers and QGL since day one. The earliest post in the index is dated 01:12am 09/04/99 (Nats posting about April 99 QGL) - almost TEN YEARS. Holy s***!

As part of this, a bunch of the really old posts that would have been rendered broken have also been fixed (we think) across the board.

Anyway, have a play and see what you think. Feedback appreciated.

Big props for this go to Plasma who wrote the original indexer and Spadbob for taking the time to put up with my s*** and constant series of changes. And to a lesser extent the guys that wrote Lucene, the software we use to do the indexing/searching, but they didn't really do any of the hard work.

(It's /not/ coming to AusForums/QGL forum just yet but we will look at that later as an option. This was a long time coming; the original code for this was written almost a year ago (maybe longer) and we've only just gotten around now to plugging it in.)

I love that the first thread has a bunch of nukes, people being told not to revive old threads and the f-bomb being dropped.

Some of the old posts might not show up - if you find them and can post the URLs here I'll check them out so we can try and figure out why!

just remember guys, just copy the last 7 digits of an ausgamers thread and replace the last 7 digits of a qgl thread with them and you have your archaic thread in proper colours.

if that's tenebrae quake with the 32bit texture support / extra lighting funcs / bump mapping / etc..(wouldn't load for me)... don't bother :P just get fuhquake or equake/ezquake which all use the gl-fuhquake.exe. it supports 32bit textures n comes with nearly all id tex's re-done in 32bit. looks lush but it's qw physics though... not quake :(

This is awesome, thanks trog!

I did notice one thing though, the links to posts don't seem to take you to your actual post if it isn't on the first page...

For example, for me when I click this link, for a post I made on the first page of the thread:
http://www.ausgamers.com/forums/general/thread.php/2600363#postitem2600439
it takes me to page and points the view at my post.

But when I click this link, for a post I made on the second page:
http://www.ausgamers.com/forums/general/thread.php/2600363#postitem2600847
it just goes to the first page of the thread and doesn't move the view at all...

Oh and using Firefox 3 if that's any help.

Trog, I have a question.

Can you make it either...

a) Look like the blue QGL page too... and link the blue theme to the blue search page etc.

b) Make the search page remember what theme you use, and direct you to the blue theme'd version of the thread if thats your default.

I can't seriously read "Theres something about Einstein" in the new colour scheme.

[22:20] [fpot] what you just said blake, you call it a rhyme
[22:20] [fpot] I'd be more inclined to say it's a crime
[22:21] [fpot] when it comes from your mouth it sounds like s***
[22:21] [fpot] As for your asian girlfriend, I'd give her a hit
[22:21] [fpot] except that she has been touched by you

when I stop having to answer every time someone asks that even though the answer to it is in my original post and scattered throughout the thread repeatedly
