I'm interested in purchasing a mobile phone from ebay overseas and I was just wondering if it would work here?

Yeah, just make sure its unlocked as teq said. Also make sure its compatible with GSM/3G or whatever your provider is compatible with as well (this should be a given with any modern phone though).

Make sure its quad band 3G at least then you're guarenteed that it will work on any network.

i bought both my last phones this way.

saved heaps (like $300) by not paying the chump tax and the phones worked great.

If you want to use it on NextG and take advantage of the high speeds - look for 850mhz HSDPA / HSUPA.

If you want to use it on Optus or Vodafone and take advantage of the (upcoming) high speeds - look for 900mhz HSDPA / HSUPA.

If you want to use it on 3, (or any of the other current networks) and take advantage of the high speeds - look for 2100mhz HSDPA.

They're the frequencies of the aus networks.

i've bought about 4-5 phones off ebay over the last couple of years. all of them except one worked perfectly. saved tonnes of money.

one of them was a bit dodgy, but still worked relatively ok. luck of the draw i guess.

I purchased a samsung SGH-D600 from a seller in Hong Kong, phone cost was $450 at the time with about $50 p&h. Arrived quickly and phone has been great. At the time the price was much better than what you would get on a contract with optus or telstra and the phone wasn't locked to any network.

In the future when I replace this mobile I will do the same thing.

3 for me, i'm pretty spastic when it comes to losing/breaking phones. others were for gf or family.

You should just get teh phone through contract, and get insurance on the phone shouldn't you?

i bought my n95 off ebay, but made sure the seller was an australian physical location so if it's a dud i can hunt them down. i would never buy a phone from Hong Kong etc.

I bought my iphone from a guy in Texas. It arrived as promised. I never doubted him :) Also, the after sales service from him has been better than any shop here that I've ever been to.

Also, Judge Judy is a hard woman, but you cant say she's wrong. Suck it up you scamming biatch!
