lol, all they do is use the title to con people into spending money, be it a s*** game or not. you never get to play a demo. You honestly telling me that sc2 is better than sc1? hell the sc1 multiplayer still has a bigger community than sc2, they screwed bnet in the ass for sc2. And i hate blizzard only recently because i hate companies who are all about the cash, and not the sheer passion for making bloody fantastic games like they used to.I never played SC1 but I would suggest that the fact that 3 million people bought it in one month indicates that the majority of SC1 gamers think it is a worthwhile investment. There's always gonna be haters just because its new and shiny though |

evvan reminds me of qgl posters who say Avatar is bad for being popular.
SC2 s***s all over SC1 for me. I stopped playing SC1 pretty quickly, sure it was fun for awhile but, eh, SC2 is basically a much more polished, awesome game and has everything SC1 was missing. |

My name is ewan. heres a little post that someone wrote on a site after playing sc2, its just some valid points, upto you wether you like the game or not, but least we tell you why instead of saying ITS JUST s***! Seriously I can't believe they f***ed up the story so badly. -They spell out tychus was going to betray you from the start.. that was extremely bad. The betrayal is not shocking if you see it coming Also the revealing info they gave horner was just lame "transponder in suit of armor that will kill tychus" was something they could have revealed AFTER the ending cinematic where they saved kerrigan and you got a little prologue to what went down between tychus and mengsk. -The whole tychus betrayal and spelling it out the whole game just the lamest bit of story telling ever. -Kerrigan is no longer a badass but a pussycat, here we were hoping kerrigan would kick ass and take names, her new voice actor is just atrociously bad... so bad as to ruin her character. -The overmind revelation on Aiur just ruined everything from SC1. They even have tassadar spell everything out all at once and reveal everything in one go, Tassdar was a deus ex machina and it was an awful one. A deus ex machina (pronounced /ˈdeɪ.əs ɛks ˈmɑːkiːnə/ or /ˈdiː.us ɛks ˈmækɨna/,, DAY-əs eks -kee-nə) (Latin for "god out of the machine"; plural: dei ex machina) is a plot device whereby a seemingly inextricable problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new character, ability, or object. The tassdar overmind revelation was probably the lamest thing in video game history. It's feels like they forced this lame plot point into the game, everything about it feels fake and unrealistic, even the voice actor for zeratul gives and unconvincing performance when trying to digest the "courage" of the overmind, given I bet he thought it was awful as well!! haha. The way they revealed these story tidbits were off the charts bad. Having tassadar just show up out of nowhere just killed me. -They turned the xel'naga or (is it just hybrids?) into YET ANOTHER EVIL RACE WITH NO PERSONALITY... there is no explanation for why the hybrid in the perserver mission was on a protoss world. Absolutely nothing was explained behind the hybrids what their purpose is. The hybrids are just a cookie cutter "bland faceless evil", if the hybrids end up being the xel'naga then it will be extremely lame. It seems the game industry lacks imagination severely, every time they give you a suspicious bad ass higher power/higher race in a story they go and ruin it with cookie cutter lame filler bulls***. The only game to get this kind of thing right was mass effect where you were intrigued by the mysteriousness of sovereign.... It seems like nothing that happens in starcraft 2 is justified by SC1... I'm wondering if it's because they were forced to split the game into three seperate parts and had to create huge amounts of filler. It feels like the original devs of SC1 were not a part of Starcraft 2 at all. 12 years it appears was way too long a period to have in between for a sequel if you want to do your previous games story justice. |

hey evvan, learn to post multiple responses in the one post you twat
also - shut the f*** up, you've told everyone why you don't like it, the majority have said 'you're an idiot, and we enjoy it regardless' so get the picture will you i played SC1 and i think SC2 is a worthy successor, in the end it'll be the multiplayer component that makes the game last for years and years and that seems to be holding up pretty well and by splitting the story into 3 different single player portions you might have to pay 3 times for it, but at least you'll get a single player campaign that is lengthy |

Evan please try to limit your posts to one at a time, or, more preferably, none at a time. Thanks! Also, who cares about RTS single player anyway. I love Starcraft 2 as much as I loved the first (a lot) and I had to force myself to complete the first game's SP with cheats and so far in the second I've finished the very first level of the campaign only. MP is where it's at! |

I was planning on posting saying that Blizzard sold out when they joined with Activision (notice in SC2 how there's a lack of LAN, lack of dedicated servers and how they split what would normally be 1 game into 3 games), but now I'm kinda worried I'll be lumped with the crazy guy. So don't hate on me; I don't have anger issues and won't rip someone who bought the game into tiny pieces. I'm just boycotting Activision-Blizzard on my own and hoping others might want to as well so that companies will alter their business model (namely, Kotick will) so that quality, original games with many features and modes (LAN, dedicated servers, mod support, etc) are sought after, instead of mass-produced half games (or, in the case of SC2, one third games) with no options. |

The Internet is the ultimate DRM for games that have a multiplayer component that does not suck. Lots of companies realised this ages ago and I think more and more of them are going to pursue similar strategies, which is sort of unfortunate for LAN groups, but I guess its rare to find a LAN these days that couldn't get an Internet connection going for auth-only purposes. The lack of dedicated servers, etc, is a side effect of them wanting to exert a stranglehold on things like DLC and (worse) to basically continue selling you Version 2.0. Again I don't think this is unique to Activision; MW2 just more or less was just the first real high profile example - if you can believe the rumours, the next CoD game is going to have proper dedicated server support (I'll believe it when I have the server code in my hands though, being an untrustworthy, cynical bastard). I fully support you for boycotting products that don't meet your expectations as a gamer; I will never buy an FPS game that doesn't have a dedicated server component and I will always advise gamers to do the same, no matter how shiny the game is. |

It can't in this case, because the d******* used an exclusive 'never'. It would prove the rule if he'd said something more sensible like 'often' or 'usually'. |

Anyone here going to watch the GSL starting tonight?
I paid the $20 and signed up the first seasons premium live stream + VODs. Not TOO happy about the bitrate atm, the sample vids are 500k and watchable but I'm hoping the live stream button that says 650k isn't a mistype. Live in 7 hours, Round of 64, September 4th
Free stream avaliable, quality is quite dodgey though. http://www.gomtv.net/2010gslopens1/ last edited by CHUB at 13:01:41 04/Sep/10 |

Am I the only one having issues where SC2 still overheats their system when playing? Doesn't happen for any other game, just SC2. Video card goes nuts, followed by monitor looking for signal (ie, signal has gone), then reboot :(

sc2 hasn't really impressed me. The terrain and graphics is ordinary compared to CoH, and the gameplay for CoH is far more tactical. There are some interesting resource management aspects to sc2 but not it's that engaging.

Depends what you mean by a "good game" I guess? Guilty of that. I really only play it for the cheese. You don't need skill! hahah. But as taggs said, if the player is better, you're simply going to get out played. The matching system is interesting, once u get more games it. It becomes a bit more settled. A mate and I did some random 2v2 using gay proxy tacts. We're not that good (gold league represent!) but ended up beating these 2 clowns in Diamond. Oh the rage that ensued was so awesome. And that is why this game is good. A good all round player is good, no matter what you throw at them. And others are only "good" if you give them the time and space. But watch them crumble under pressure. s*** is LULZ. |

It can be VERY frustrating at times playing Random and having no set strategy/build order but I can feel my skill jumping in leaps and bounds every game, especially when I lose. I feel that you don't grow from playing cheese or all-ins... you either win and learn nothing or lose and learning nothing. |

Haha lately I have been doing cannon's in peoples bases in 3v3s/4v4s for lulz and it is f***ing amazing the amount of times it works. Check your bases people! Like they will scout my base and see the f***ing obvious101 forge+pylon and still not check 1 metre behind their gas patch.
1v1's is srsly biz, team games are for lulz. |

I used to scout the opponents base to see what they had... it never occured to me to scout what they DIDN'T have. Now I feel a lot safer from proxy play. Haven't played a team game yet, perhaps I should try it out. |

Just takes practice. You have to get used to flicking to your base quickly to manage supply etc and flick through your production hotkeys rather than just staring at your army. If you come back from a fight where you take heavy losses and you have no army built to replace it you've done something very wrong. We actually performed pretty average in some of those fights but continual production allowed us to just keep on coming back. There are some cheats, but they are technically bad habits ... :P If you are Protoss it may help to make more warp gates than you need (or you see the pros using in replays and casts). Its technically a waste of minerals as you can't run them 24/7 but it gives you more grace if you forget to make units. Same thing applies to Terran - you can use queueing and over-raxing to smooth out your production. Zerg usually just have to make larvae and lots of it. If you have s***loads of banked larvae you can pump units at will. Extra hatcheries will allow you to catch up with your Queening if you get behind. The key is to make sure you have good income macro (make SCVs / probes / drones etc) and keep your money LOW. Also, as day9 says, always expand when you attack or after a big fight where you both lose lots of units. Its a freebie expo :) |

One other neat trick I like to do is after you've grouped and hot key'd something like your barracks (4ish) and you're about to launch in for an attack, set the waypoint to be where the action is and keep pumping out those units. You'll get reinforcements trickling in and if you've done enough damage to each other it's easy to keep pushing through into their base. An area of the game I really need to improve is my economy, I never produce enough workers. Even in the games I win I always seem to have about 75% of the workers the other guy has, I just tend to forget about producing more after I start building up a force. From replays and videos I guess getting to about 35ish for your main is ideal before pushing into an expansion? |

imo you should pretty much be constantly producing workers all game. once your main is maxed out depending on what race you play you'll probably have at least one expo by that time that your main can help pump out workers for.
the only time you should ever really stop producing workers is late game when resources are running out (if you get there, i've only had a few that didnt finish before that stage). i'm nowhere near as good as other players though (gold atm) so i'm sure there's others who could give better advice. |

been playing the campaign a bit now but it's not very tactical, you just try and hang on until you have a big enough blob to overrun the other side's blob :s |

never stop making workers! unless you have some plan to do a timing push (so u need extra money NOW to get enough units for this timing window) or you're going all in. Think of workers as a long term interest account. unless you have a set plan to end a game early never stop making workers.
the idea behind it is that it requires 30 probes per base (including gas probes) to full SATURATE 1 base. anything pass 8x3 (3probes by 8 mineral fields) yields no returns. the reason you keep making probes and never stop is you want to keep expanding. BEST CASE SCENARIO you want about 20ish probes per base with 2 expansions also with 20 probes. of course more bases the better but really if you'er full saturating 3+ bases thats already 100 pop... of workers so you really have to wonder if ur army will be big enough for the upcoming s***fest. you'll see the point in this when you look at mineral return graphs based on how many workers there are mining. |

From replays and videos I guess getting to about 35ish for your main is ideal before pushing into an expansion? Edit - eh CSIRAC is first, I'll back him up anyway :P -- 30 per expansion is saturated (max mining). You want 3 per mineral field (8x3 = 24) and 3 per geyser (24+6 = 30). By the midgame you want 3 bases mining constantly so your econ worker count should cap at about 60. been playing the campaign a bit now but it's not very tactical, you just try and hang on until you have a big enough blob to overrun the other side's blob :s What mission you up to? The first few are a bit like that. I'm not done but my experience has been pretty different, there's lots of tactics (lava world, train robbery etc) and achievements add additional challenges. |
