17142 can mean; She works for AMEX, lets just state she has three people who are higher in the company than she is. |

If she has only 3 people higher then her, then wouldn't she generally be expected to be on-call, 24/7 ?
Did you factor 24/7 365/year into your equasion? |

If she has only 3 people higher then her, then wouldn't she generally be expected to be on-call, 24/7 ? This is exactly why I couldn't give a figure, and why wage power gets messy for people in senior roles and small business. Technically I'm 24/7/365... |

and thats why i asked average hours worked
if you get paid $100k a year but spend every waking hour working, well you'll have a relatively low score at home and watching tv regardless of on-call or not = not working at work at surfin qgl = working in the shower but devising work plans = not working and your own fault for not being able to separate real life with work unless you're one of those weirdos that lives to work not works to live last edited by hardware at 13:13:03 19/Mar/10 |

and thats why i asked average hours worked Its not as simple as that, I can't answer that question - at random I'll not go to to toffice and 'work from home' taking vital tasks but otherwise watching TV / chasing the kids. Sometimes I'm at work all weekend. Sometimes I do 8-6, sometimes its 11-4. Sometimes I'm having a bad 'M.S. week' and don't show up at all for several days, and only take vital problems from home. I have no idea what quantity of work that is. I don't even know what my real remuneration is because I'm not paid by the hour, and the trust is dispensed to myself, my wife and the kids. Its messy and wild but it pays the bills, and nobody in the family has a boss. at work at surfin qgl = working That's ridiculous and arbitrary. Bludging on the boss' time counts, but the boss taking your time outside work doesn't? Get the f*** out. |

in the shower but devising work plans = not working and your own fault for not being able to separate real life with work I'm a programmer and tend not to do well without inspiration and well-thought out approaches. Ideas usually hit me at times such as while walking or in the shower, which is the only way I can do my job a lot of the time. Tis not that I want to be thinking about work while trying to sleep, but it's often the only way I can get things done... I wouldn't expect that to be uncommon among programmers, it's just the way I feel creativity works - unless of course you're just one of those bastards who codes everything by continuously growing inefficient chunks of code until the person who has to come work on it next has to just start again. |

ok i can see what you're saying hoggyHahah it's all over the place like a mad woman's s***! But I reckon I'm ahead. Getting sick was the catalyst that changed a lot of things for me, it provided the motivation to do things, take risks and set up life the way I wanted it. My net happiness NOW compared to before I got M.S. is 100% up, there is no doubt about it. I have a lot more face time with the kids, my wife doesn't have to work at all, and if I look at the clock at 7am and decide that today is a 10am start I just f***ing do it. In a few year's time I'm gonna write a book about how my disease disaster was the best thing that ever happened to me :) |

the work/life balance is supreme and a lot of people don't ever put their minds to trying to better it, they accept that their life is just locking out life for work. |

your sister's name is louise? No names no pack drills If she has only 3 people higher then her, then wouldn't she generally be expected to be on-call, 24/7 ? I only included the 70 office hours per week. Whilst people at that level may well be available they have staff they delegate to. There is a big difference between small business and large multinational corporations. Is she single? No |

Approximately 2305.
This comparison you concocted is totally void given you asked people to conform to "averages" such as annual leave. When persons receive more than your standard 4 weeks with leave loading you're asking them to ignore a few thousand dollars in your comparison, same with salary sacrificing if they are career specific, as well as super contribution benefits. All of these can add up to tens of thousands of dollars in the hand differences! |

Oh right, the thread where you predicted the GFC? i didn't realise that actually happened... would you mind linking that? here's a start: http://www.ausgamers.com/forums/search.php?keywords=&author=superform®ion=both&posted=0&direction=newer&sort=score&pagesize=100
if a copy/paste of that doesn't work just load up the forums from the AG interface, jump into the search function, tap your name into the 'search for author' field and have at thee. let's assume for the sake of your pedantic argument that the onset of the GFC was 14/15 Sep 08 when Lehman Bros announced bankruptcy - a commonly accepted starting point of the GFC. so back to what i linked above? that's every thread you've ever posted on qgl, if you could link the relevant thread then that would be just super. because i've just skimmed through your posts prior to Sep 08 and can't find what in the f*** you're talking about. happy to stand corrected though. so if you could just link this thread where you supposedly argued with me that there would be a GFC and i argued that there wouldn't be, that would just make my day. my point is if you couldnt see there was a global financial crisis coming then maybe finance isnt your thing oh right, because the one thing about the GFC that sticks out in everyone's minds is just how predictable it was, right? if you're seriously suggesting that anyone who couldn't predict the GFC (as you claim you did) won't make any money in finance, ever, then you're even stupider than your posts belie - if that were the case 75%+ of wall street, london and the rest of financial markets across the globe would be unemployed. this is another case of you spouting absolute bulls*** - and if your trends in threads past are anything to go by you probably won't even reply to this post. |

Actually, the GFC was quite predictable it's just that individually we can't do anything about it. Sub-prime loans were the alarm bell for me, got out of hedge funds and protected my portfolio in solid blue chips. Been watching China/India for years and seeing who supplies them = profit. Of course it's not big money but it keeps me in PCs and smokes. |

So it's basically gross annual income divide your hours away from home = figure Based on the above statement, most weeks working from home = 16000 Average week this year containing chaos requiring me to go on-site = approx 5333.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 Based on true work hours = 1333.33333333333333333333333333333 These figures dramatically change when the weather improves and I take some time off to go fishing. |
