Maybe I dont want to play against people of my skill level, you tend to learn faster playing against better players?

Out of interest, whats the maximum player size on a map? surely it cant be less than 16....

When you do, it will automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL

That is crap. What that ends up doing is skipping over the servers with low ping in order to match up your skill. So if your good and there are lots of noobs on low ping servers (to you) you'll get dumped on a server on the moon because their 'skill' matches yours (and vice versa).

That is crap, I'd rather choose the server that has the best ping, regardless of the skill level of the people playing it, as people come and go pretty often on a public server.

f***ing where have they said IW are going to be hosting servers, paid or not?

*~You guys are f***ing unbelievably stupid. Time for an aspergian list-based arguement~*

They're doing it because:

  • It homogenizes development. This is how the console games work. They no longer have to support modding or the entire dedicated server program.
  • It actually is a positive for a large amount of players. It makes it possible to pretty quickly jump into a game if you live in America and Europe and get matched with other low-skill players.
  • It's a small step against piracy. It'll take longer for the matchmaking system to get reverse engineered, if it ever does.
  • No custom maps means they can actually sell paid DLC. The guy in the podcast expressed this as one of the key reasons.

  • It's f***ing awful because:

  • You can expect a genuinely less stable, laggy experience. IW are leaders in console multiplayer and matchmaking, and MW2 on the console at least is going to include server migration and other subtle improvements, but your games are still often going to be hosted by people on $29 "unlimited" 512kbit TPG connections. Even if the server duties migrate to the fastest connection every time, Australian internet is still awful.
  • Australians and other countries with third world internet and associated upload speeds are not going to be able to play games with a large amount of players.
  • Host advantage. Heh.
  • Imagine trying to run a competitive clan league for a second
  • Quota. No more quota-free ISP hosted servers, and you're on an ISP that counts both uploads and downloads your 5gb monthly plan isn't going to very far when you're randomly stuck hosting.
  • No more custom maps, intense server modifications (weapon bans, custom weapon damage), etc.
  • Less community. Outside of private matches you'll be paired with randoms instead of server regulars.
  • As Toll said, don't expect it to be halfway decent and or even match you with Australians every time. For example, as the game grows older, the majority of players are going to be very skilled and very high-ranked. As a new player you're going to be dumped on a server full of scandinavians with a 900 ping.
  • Expect the problem where only one or two game modes or maps are played to be exasperated as people get sick to f*** of waiting around during the matchmaking process and select HC TDM every single f***ing time.
  • It's still going to sell like a motherf***er, mostly because everyone will be ignorant of it and even more mostly because it's f***ing Call of Duty. This will mean more games in the future going down exactly this line.
  • So we'll see a gradual decline towards console levels of player caps, until internet technology catches up. Hope you never really enjoyed 32v32 BF2 matches or anything lmao

  • ~* Don't buy this game *~

I knew there was a reason
This is the definition of you not knowing the reason and instead finding a reason.

And that's you being an arrogant c*** in an attempt to win the interwebz.

Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay: When you want to player a multiplayer game on PC, in the past. You’d have to scroll through a Server Browser which listed every available server which was hosted by individual server admins. Each had their own private rules, mods, or ways of playing the game. Most players would also use the server browser to find just the best quality game (based on PING). With IWNET matchmaking, it takes all that into account for you. All you have to do is select the playlist (pre-set gametypes with custom rules) that fits the style of play you are in the mood for. When you do, it will automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL. So you’re always guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you’re playing on as well as an equal game with other players of your same skill level, not rank, but skill level. It doesn’t mean you’ll just be thrown into a random game! It will put you in the game that will give you the smoothest gameplay possible without you having to manually find a server with the best ping.

I doubt the best posible match for aussies will be worth the time of day. I sure as hell wont host one, both because my connection is not good enough and logic says it will use more of my download quota.

Americans however wont ahve to worry about this so much.

I've heard that US ISPs are migrating to download/upload quota system on the "user pays" concept. I don't know if it will take but I've heard it.

To that extent the MMOFPS Huxley uses a similar Peer to Peer system, 8 player games use 2g in 8 minutes. Net effect for a 25g Telstra account is 1.75 hours of play before your bandwidth is limited.

Yeah but alot of PC gamers dont want to just jump onto any server based on ping etc, they will have a particular server or a few servers they hang out on becuase they know other people that regularly go on that same server, or becuase they know that server is always good because its on there isp.

This. I only play on Internode 4,7 & 24 because the people on there are (mostly) awesome and there are some good people and some noobs so I get a good variety of owning and getting owned.

I was looking forward to this game but now I think I'll just find a friend with it, definitely won't be buying my own copy.

That can't be right. Where is this info from? According to those figures you would need around 1.7MB/sec download speed to play with 8 people.

Telstra cable goes up to what 2MB/s? I'm on the basic one and I get 1-1.2MB/s from really good websites. s***house upload speed though.

The figures are correct, I can attain 1.9mb/sec (down) on my connection and its what I recorded during Huxley closed beta. This is if you are the host, if you aren't then expect normal usage. I believe, in both systems, the actual host is the one with the best connection to "listen server" (for want of a better name). In the case of Huxley I've seen the game hang and startup again with a new host. All because an American joined an Aussie host. Of course we all left when that happened.

Don't worry though Huxley has three systems; Skirmish (mentioned above and purely FPS), PVE (solo or you host the mission FPS), Battlegrounds (4 types, all on dedicated servers and the best pvp experience). Lastly there is a city for both factions where you do crafting and some socialising including cruising on your hoverbike.

There is a distinct lack of detail when it comes to how IWnet sorts the hosts etc. No info about usage which should sound a big warning for Aussies and Kiwis. Perhaps Trog could give us an idea of how much an 8 player server uses.

    and now a vid about Hitlers reaction to no dedicated servers;

If any game, with 8 players, is generating 1.7MB/sec of traffic then its the worst made multiplayer game EVER. Those people should find other jobs instead of making games, or maybe shoot themselves. I guess this is the reason Huxley never actually gets finished.

Maybe they should find other jobs instead of making games AND THEN shoot themselves. Their new employer will be "WTF?", but we'll all know they were old Huxley network devs.

This is from one of the devs twitter accounts. Might be from 402.

    # @Lamby_1992 We're always improving on matchmaking (game search)
and the request for a forced local search is heard & passed on to
the team about 4 hours ago from web in reply to Lamby_1992

I imagine that's what your petition was regarding Stewart so it might not be required.

Hopefully PC receives this update as well.
