It's been talked about, let's make it happen.

Sometime in August, either a day or a weekend depending where we go.

I think Obes/Jim are pretty keen on camping @ Sundown.

I wouldn't mind Double Island Point for camping if we can find somebody who knows the area/tracks well enough.

Ormeau or Ripley would make good day trips.

I've camped at freshwater not far from double island a number of times, but I didn't know there was much in the way of 4wd'ing there. The inland track from freshwater to the rainbow beach road was pretty tame, I don't recall even needing 4wd at all, although having said that I haven't been there for about 4 years.

an overnighter somewhere would rock, sundown would definitely be good

I'm really gay and love stuffing several dicks into my mouth at one time, so as you can imagine, the type of car I drive is horrendously homosexual so I won't be able to tag along. I do think I'm cool though, and my forum friends support this delusion.

the trip along the north shore then through the 4wd tracks to the cherry venture/rainbow beach is pretty fun, its not overly hairy but its not easy either

Yeah there's nothing hairy up at double island, but there's still some good tracks. There's one called kings head ( i think? ) that was really good. unfortunately I don't remember how to get to it :)

That bike seems to be lying on the ground a fair bit. If you add a couple more wheels it'll stand upright better.

Trails, an enviroment that 4x4s and dirt bikes share in harmony.. most of the time.
The dirt bike was on the floor to get it past obstacles 4x4s could not pass

Yes but its that difference we fear and as such we are going to redicule you and question your sexuality.

Seriously tho I am all for crazy trailbike riders coming along too. But it won't be challenging for you and you guys have like small petrol tanks and stuff.

I went on a trip to tenterfield near the QLD border bout 6 months back, destination was fraser island. Fell off in the corners of oxley highway (50kms of pure twisty roads, hot) so decided to cut it short.

According to my trusty Dirty Weekends book Sundown is Moderate to Difficult and Conondale is Easy to Moderate. I therefore suggest the majority of us go to Sundown and Obes goes to Conondale.

Dirty Weekends is a great book, my only complaint is that the pages are warped and stiff, but that could be because it was on the floor of my car when I had water up to the top of the seats inside :)

I won't be able to make it, but in the interests of the QGL community I will go douse an area of native forest with a few drums of depleting fossil fuels and light'er up.

On my way home I'll close my eyes whenever I reverse and with any luck I'll manage to kill a school child or two for added 4x4 bonus points.

plok, I'm so miffed that I've just had to return and post again with the following indignant retort: are you even aware that if you're a crash tester for toyota's hybrid car division and you constantly run into the path of the oncoming test vehicles, there's more chance of dieing by being run over by a toyota prius than there is a 4x4?

Vote for landcruiser park for camping, rated tracks n hot showers etc.

Given that so far the cars going are a subie sedan, a Pramry(Prado), a girls car(Jimny) and a Asia Rocksta... I fear that at landcruiser park we will be confronted with the wrath of ugly patrol trayback owners and the "omgwtf you can't come here this is for real 4wds only attitudes" that we have seen on this very forum.

I haven't been to LCP but when I went to Black Duck the camping area was filled with idiots and yahoos who played Kevin Bloody Wilson or Rodney Rude or some other random 80s f***stain until silly hours of the morning. If LCP is anything like that I'll go postal on them with my subaru!

I'm keen for either. I'd prefer sundown just coz there's less likely to be idiots and yahoos carrying on. but if overwhelming choice is LCP we can go there.

I am actually looking forward to Sundown.

Like Jim said, I did it the first weekend after I got my car. Highway tyres (ht rated) no diff locks, standard suspension. Hell no recovery points. And I had worse angles at the front (bull bar has better arrival angle). Not to mention it was the first time I had driven a 4wd off road in about 12 years.

And I struggled my way up everything out there except a 50 meter stretch of one road... I'll probably get out there this time and cry about how easy it is.

I know Double Island point pretty well. Not much 4x4ing to be had though.
The beach is pretty big and easy to find a place to fit quite a few people in...

If you wanted to camp at Freshwater camping ground (Some people cant live without toilets for a weekend) thats about 5-10min drive up the beach from where you would normally camp on the beach.

Morten is good but a weekend is usually too short for there...

As for 4x4 Parks, I like Black Duck. Great Tracks, the hills and Mud Flat provide good challanges. If you have a bit of work done to your car (and dont mind needing to do more work after) the Gauntlet is always fun to watch (Never taking my Jeep through it though) They have motor Bikes there too though, I know that annoyes some other 4x4 drivers...

Edit: I should probably read the rest of the thread before replying to the initial post :o

Blackduck has turned into a Bike park. Last time I went there the tracks were starting to get shoddy, the maps were wrong and the bikes outnumbered the cars by a long way.
