Can someone tell me why there were more FINAL Fantasies after the 1st one?

final fantasy for those characters maybe?

or just having 'final' or 'fantasy' as the name wasnt too appealing

what would you have called it?

The games dont follow on from each other, each one is an entirely new story. At least, it used to be like that, but now they've bowed under peer pressure and started making sequels.

Nothing wrong with having sequels, just as long as they aren't shameless attempts to cash in like crazy...

I used to spent a crazy amount of time playing Final Fantasy I, III, III and IV on the Nintendo. IMO it was one of the best RPG games I ever played, I have never played any sequals though.

I still have the damn battle songs from FF2 in my head now come to think of it :).

FFX2 is actually a hell of alot better than i thought it would be (i didnt have high expectations of it). The battles are so much more fun and exciting than FFX's were, and a bit harder at that. Story is pretty decent so far in, but has nothing compared to other ones, this one seems more like a 'choose your own adventure game'. Basically theres a set story that u HAVE to play no matter what, and that accounts for maybe 50% of the gameplay, then theres like a bagillion other side quest stories u can do if you chose to whenever u want during the game (non-linear unlike ffx).

Oh yeah... I forgot what i was posting about :P I had seen the trailer before but still it does look awesome. And damn that Buster Sword I swear its growing larger and larger every day !

What is it with Japanese putting lame, boring slow ass songs in movie trailers? Thats like the third japanese trailer for a movie I've seen that has the most retardedly boring music in the background, it makes it hard to even get excited. Trailers are meant to make you excited about a movie with big loud pulse-pounding clips of action and music, not put you to sleep with a lullaby.

Yeah, I never played it, but if they're marketing it solely at people who've played the game then their marketing guys are a bit silly.

khel its for the ff fans not for ur average joe, hence its name. i guess they wanted to make a movie instead of a game sequel.

Is it going to be a cinema release though or just straight to video?

Ah, k, spose that makes a bit more sense. I was thinking cinema release, and if they did a cinema release and aimed it at just the FF7 fans, it'd be even more of a failure than the last Final Fantasy movie was.

How im looking at this, is basically another ending for ff7. I mean for those of u who finished it properly u saw the ending way in the future with Red, so im gonna pretend this is the ending there instead of the red part. But a 1 hour long ending :P.

And yeah khel, straight to DVD, this movie is gonna cain. But i dont know how well it will go across for people who havent played FF7, cause in that trailer u saw a couple of the old characters, heard music from ff7 and looks like its continuing on the story of FF7. In other words unless at the start of the movie they dont have a prologue, you might not get the full effect of the story (and how f***ing bad ass sephiroth is!)

it was called final fantasy because it was the last game that square were going to make because they were about to go bankrupt... but obviously they didnt because of the success of the first final fantasy.

i've never played a FF, probably because of the turn based crap, i just couldnt stand it, but the FF coming out on the GC is going to be real time, and im sure as hell going to play that.

(yes ff does suck because its turn based)

whose played kingdom hearts? - besides ffinal fantasy, its one of my favourite games (ff+disney, but the disney part sucks, if it was just a new way of setting out ff then it wouldve been way leeter)

Kingdom Hearts story was cool, and i personally dont mind disney, i mean s***, disney make some of the best cartoons, and donald and goofy were played well in kh. Plus it gave me a real buzz each time i visited a new area to meet more cartoon characters that i havent seen since i was a little kid (and Square characters too, omg aeris and cloud get back together!!). Good stuff. And the ending was cool (secret ending too, that rawked), so i cant wait for Kingdom Hearts 2.

(plus cloud and sephiroth, need i say more, they f***ing cains in KH :P)

I got FFX from a competition my mate entered, thought it was good.
Hated the gameplay, but kept playing cause I liked the story and the cut-scenes :P
Ended up finishing it by whacking Tidus's Father in the its second Aeon form by Making Yoshimoto do his super-power thingo attack by giving him a tonne of coins.

And the last-last boss, well, you have unlimited auto-revive, so you can't even lose that battle!
Awesome ending though, and Sin was badass in all his cut-scenes =)

Wanted FFX2 but damned if I was gonna buy it when I hated the boring gameplay so much =P [And its not the fact that its turn-based that made it boring]

Unless you just started the game, you have to be brainless not to figure it out.
Also, its old, so didn't think it was problem.
Oh well, I didnt force you to read :P

I've almost finished ffx2 (chapter 5, leveling up to take on last area), and personally, i would say everything APART from story/music is better in FFX-2 than FFX. The Battles, the Animation, The voice acting (towards the end seemed to improve s***loads, they got more casual). But the story (in ffx2) while it does have 1 or 2 twists they arent as powerful as the FFX ones (scene at mt gagazet/zanarkand in ffx!). I didnt think that the popish kinda music would fit in well with ffx2, but it looks like it worked well (the song at the lightning planes was awesome with the cg cutscene, that was amazing s***). But FFX's OST is soo much more original and better. But yeah, its good s***. Almost being able to do whatever you want in FFX2 should be a big boost for the people who didnt like the linear gameplay of FFX (*cough* khel *cough*).

Thing that Annoyed me most was the random battles, fkn annoying as well when just trying to move around from place to place, until you got that no-random battles thingo...
Which I didn't exactly get, so yea, it was fkn annoying to get thrown into battle every 2 steps :S

Well then equip a no encounters bracer and suffer with crap level characters.

ORRRRRR they could just do it so you can SEE the enemies and avoid them, instead of fagget Gameboy Pokemon style random encounters

ff games are known for their random battles. i actually like them.. otherwise if i saw them on screen i would never fight.
Loki

Well Im the opposite, I prefer to chose when I fight and when I *stay away*...

I mean, it gets annoying when they ask you to run from point a to b to a to b and back to a again, and in between that, all your doing is talking to people and/or trying to buy s***.

Sure you can use the "run away" function, but it was annoying to do so, wait for the battle to load up, sometimes you didn't get pre-emptive etc.
Sometimes the run failed.
Meh, felt like there wasno control over what you fight, when you want to fight.
