A Dice employee has posted to the official Bad Company 2 forums letting everyone know that EA has approved more servers to go online:
So we have approval from EA to add more servers. However we are working with RSP's to make this work smoothly.
  • As such, only back ordered servers can be brought online at this point.
  • Only 50% of the server providers back orders can be put online tonight, the other 50% will be allowed to be started within the next 48 hours. This is to make sure the EA servers hold up to the new servers over night.
  • Thank you for your patience and understanding
Hopefully this will alleviate some of the problems with the server shortages and improve the online experience.

Why do the servers need to be approved? Why can't they just release a dedicated server package like Valve do?

Not if they're all US servers, I was surprised when I finally got BFBC2 yesterday that there are only a few ranked and punkbuster servers for Aus. And they were all full...

There is atleast 20-30 Aussie servers and there is always empty space, I think people just don't know how to find them.

Well it certainly doesn't help that they can't just filter by country or anything....

When I say a few, I meant 12ish. When I go into the server browser I check all the boxes except NOT FULL and do a full refresh, then arrange by ping.
Anything with a <100 ping is what I am referring too.

Ok quite a few people don't seem to understand how the search function works (Or the keywords you need to use to get aussie servers).

Basically check the boxes you want then type in GameArena or Hypernia (Those are the ones i use and they are case sensitive) then CLICK search. Do not hit enter. When you have done that it will come up with a list of servers with those names in it and seeing as GameArena is an aus thing you will get around 20+ servers all under 30 ping.

Another thing about what midda said, because of the HUGE amount of people that decided BC2 is actually worth getting on PC (Which both scared and surprised Dice) they had to close all server applications after the first master server crash which unfortunatly meant australia got the "Not untill we fix the issue" crap we normally get.

TLl;DR Australia always gets the shaft.

edit: NOPE still can't see a single server

Are you hitting enter after typing stuff in or are you CLICKING search.

Hitting Enter only refreashs the ENTIRE master server list, clicking search will take all of the stuff you selected and typed and search for those.

P.S Try Aussie, GameArena or Hyernia.

According to the UK forums, patch 522175 is ready now, but the STEAM version won't be ready until probably tomorrow, citing that it "needs to go through extra QA before it goes live on Steam." We've just tested the Steam version - it didn't appear to patch, but thankfully it didn't stop us playing on servers, so it appears the patch is backwards compatible.

Here's the full changelog:

Single Player
Fixed: Graphical issues on some systems on SP_03 (at start and when displaying background mountains at “Up river”)
Fixed: Character voice issue during cut scenes in SP_03b (only affected Spanish)
Fixed: Hang when killed using TOW Launchers in SP_05
Fixed: Graphical issue on some systems on SP_05 (displaying background mountains)
Fixed: Voice volume in cut scenes on SP_06
Fixed: Unexpected dialog at start of SP_08 (only affected Italian)
Fixed: Random crash in SP_09 cut scenes

Multi Player
Fixed: Server Browser - Joining a password protected server results in a connection timeout
Fixed: Server Browser auto updating server list when reopened causing a timeout issue
Fixed: Password issue during Friend invites
Fixed: Password text field issue on joining a password protected server
Fixed: “Flickering” ship on Arica Harbor
Fixed: Clan tags that use numbers in them displaying a “0” on the Select Spawn Point screen
Fixed: Display issue on long server names
Fixed: Mortar Strike icon not updating (Beta issue)
Fixed: No “Exit Game” menu option appearing at the end of some rounds.
Fixed: Flickering user rank icon (appeared as an animated gif) when user reaches rank 10.
Fixed: Flickering trees and “Red Box” on Laguna Presa
Fixed: User is logged out when failing to create a new soldier
Fixed: Zeus stationary weapon not appearing in stats
Fixed: Zu23 not appearing in stats
Fixed: BMD3 AA not appearing in stats
Fixed: Friend request displaying incorrect Veteran stats
Fixed: End of Round screen displayed incorrect “UAV_Station” – now displays correct localized text.
Fixed: K/D ratio displays in the Front End
Fixed: K/D ratio displays correctly when “comparing”
Change: Server browser now defaults to list via Ping first
Change: News Ticker font support for Spanish, Polish, Russian and Japanese
Change: New message for server full (reported as “I get no message when I try and join a server, it does nothing”)
Change: New message displayed for attempting to join a password protected server without providing a password (reported as “I get no message when I try and join a server, it does nothing”)
Change: Displays version number on Front End Legal Screen
Change: Display of weapon icon during loading screen

There shouldn't be an art to finding a server. It's a f***ing server browser, it should be dead simple.

When I say a few, I meant 12ish. When I go into the server browser I check all the boxes except NOT FULL and do a full refresh, then arrange by ping. Anything with a <100 ping is what I am referring too.

You can't see any pings if the game isn't running in administrator mode. If you're on XP, you probably have an admin account, so it's fine. In Vista or Windows 7, you either have to disable UAC, or run both Steam and the game in admin mode. Totally unnecessary.

Americas Army's game browser 6 years ago allowed you query Australian and New Zealand severs only. Why cant these guys implement something like that? It takes ages for it to have to sift through the entire list to find what you want every time. Its s***ful.

Trog, wake up Nats and get Server Query doing what this game cant! :)

I hope they fixed more than is on that list.

The game does not support joining servers externally. So it's not possible for third party server query-type programs to work at all.

This is an increasing trend and one of the many things we've been trying to fight for years. It's all part of the game developers/publishers wanting to force you into the once ecosystem, instead of creating a more distributed/open/scalable alternative that offers you choice.

90% of the servers don't show a ping for me :/

yeah - you do have to type the name 'exactly'.

boost your friends list up and just join them when they're online

Midda,

It's not an art it took me all of 5 seconds to work out all by myself to look for servers with the name aussie in them. Sorry but can't hold the devs responsible for you not being able to put 2 and 2 together.

E.T.

That was a good idea with the AA server browser but if I remember correctly it took twice as long to find the servers and even then it quite often didn't show any aussie servers even if there was some.

Nah, I dont remember it being slow at all. Its takes about 3min ever time I hit search in BFBC2 to resolve anything. We always had no problem finding servers with AA. Anyhoy, I'm going to try out the tips that have been given in this thread later tonight. There has been some very specific advise and I'll follow it.

If servers aren't showing a ping, right click on the BFBC2.exe and click run with administrator privileges (as suggested by EA).

I'm really keen to buy this game but I'm still waiting to see E.T not whinging on here. I figure if they can get a cranky old f*** like that happy it should be pretty solid.

Still haven't grabbed a copy of BC2, but I remember in the review some of the comments mentioned waiting a couple of weeks for the first couple of patches to come out.

I guess this is one step closer eh? Can someone clarify how well it runs? The review mentioned a similar rig as mine, with the exception that I have a 8800GTS, not a GTX. I remember hearing the requirements were going to be beastly, and the beta ran horribly (Although most of it was latency and poor optimization)

Why do the servers need to be approved? Why can't they just release a dedicated server package like Valve do?

Isn't it because of the ranking system?

They should have done what Modern Warfare 2 does. I love being able to just get into the game and hit find me a game. It's awesomely awesome.

Woot!

Only $49.95 now on Steam so I figured I'd grab a copy. Haven't played a good FPS for a while.

On the right of the server browser change your region/location to oceana for Australian servers or just search for GameArena, it's case sensitive.

If you are talking about consoles then no idea
