Heh, well actually the Xbox 360 has been in The Land of the Rising Sun for a while now, but Microsoft have had a very tough time making any kind of dent in the fickle Japanese gamer market. Well, that was until last week (ending September 14) when the machine did so well, it actually managed to outsell the Wii thanks to a new price-point and the release of the latest Square-Enix RPG, Infinite Undiscovery (our review for this will hit soon), according to a report up over at Gamesindustry.biz. Nintendo's mini sales powerhouse only managed to shift 27,000+ units, while the Xbox 360 moved over 28,000 - something rarely seen in Japan. While this might not seem so relevant right now, it's a sign Microsoft are beginning to make some great stride - worldwide - with the Xbox 360, and we thought this would also be a good opportunity to tell you we're heading to the Tokyo Game Show this year, so be prepared for some Japanese flavoured gaming news come early October. |

Nintendo's Wii shifted 27,057 units, and the PlayStation 3 just 8050 units. That's pretty huge compared to the weekly PS3 numbers, does anyone know the total "this gen" console sales just for Japan? edit: nm found it... but only as of March 30 2008. Still, makes those weekly sales figures even more impressive Wii - 5,695,579 Xbox 360 - 602,558 PlayStation 3 - 2,009,492 |

I wonder what game attachment rates are like in different areas of the world.
When the PS3 launched, it was rumored that it was costing sony $100-200USD per console. I wonder if Japanese buyers buy more / less games than Australians and Americans etc. |

not really that big a deal is it, its probably just a single month's surge of sales.
if GT5 was released tomorrow the ps3 would sell 100,000 consoles in a day. |

I heard that Tales of Vesperia (or whatever its called) sold well in japan but not sure on the numbers. They are pretty big fans of the "Tales of" series as am I. Expect the PS3 to explode when/slightly before FF13 comes out.
