Topic: The Sims 2 Ikea Announced (with three odd screws left over)

EA have announced The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff. Yep, you're as confused as we are. Nonetheless, according to the press release you'll now be able to deck out your Sims pad with furniture from Ikea in some super-crazy in-game advertising deal that hurts me to even type.
Whether you want to create a trendy, spacious home office, a chic living room, or a cozy and inviting bedroom, with the new The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff, you can make your Sims’ dream home truly special. Design your Sims’ rooms to fit their personalities with all-new sofas, beds, tables, a TV unit, shelving and more in a variety of colors and patterns for a truly customized look. You can even add the finishing touches with popular IKEA wall art, mirrors, lighting options and vases. Be your Sims’ interior designer with inspiring, contemporary styles from IKEA!
Honestly, I'm really not sure what to say in regards to this. Sports games are branded with affiliated labels, so maybe a living simulation can get away with this. What are your thoughts?

They expect us to pay money to play this game, right?

It really sounds like it should be a promotional giveaway at IKEA stores.

My guess is that the original Sims was so popular because it appealed to chicks just as much as, if not more than, guys. Therefore, this is an awesome ikea on behalf of the creators. It certainly wouldn't STOP me from buying or playing a game, but it's not an incentive to play one I otherwise wouldn't bother.

Wow talk about crosspromotion.

most retarded idea ever, as if theres not enough advertising everywhere now gamers have to deal with games BASED on companys products

Ill be avoiding this like the plague, hopefully it flops.

imho paying 50 bucks for a set of virtual set of furniture = Lolololol @ whoever gets roped in

I don't think this idea is retarded at all: if you wanted to play the game, who cares if they advertise stuff in it? The added realism might make it more entertaining, and no one is forcing you to buy anything.

If you actually are interested in interior design fashions and gaming, then this is an awesome way of doing both. Enjoy playing a video game and see what furniture might look good where, then go buy said furniture. Targeted advertising like this not only makes a lot of sense, but is convenient for a lot of people.

I think it would be retarded of YOU not to play a game just because there are advertisements in it. Just don't buy anything. The fact that they make it such an obvious feature should help you to fight the compulsive urge to buy a new sofa.

Ok

Go watch adds on tv instead of the actual shows kk. I dont find the idea of "IKEA OMG BUY BUY" plastered all over the sims very appealing. believe it or not sims was actually a decent game without any Ikea in it.

there is many a interior design fashion program which is easy enough to use, unless you want your 10 year old decorating your house. so another moot point.

again your trying to twist my words, I didnt say i wouldnt buy a game BECAUSE theres advertisements in it I said I wouldnt buy a game BASED on advertising a companys product.

While I ignore the majority of ads, some are great because it let's me know when things I would buy anyway are discounted, or alternative places I can go and shop.

So, you're saying, even though you really enjoyed the original game without the advertising, you're not going to play it with the advertising?

I didn't need to twist your words....

I think this is a good idea so long as there's a MASSIVE amount of furniture included. I'm talking like the entire Ikea range. Something that really sucked about the Sims 2 when it first came out was the severe lack of objects.

If I owned Ikea, I'd make free discs with Ikea content for the Sims, and roll them out once every month or 2. It'd keep people coming to stores to get the next content disc, so they might buy other stuff while they're there.

EA pushes out some more mindless crap which features slightly more advertising then before, but so intangible.

Why do people buy this stuff ?

Lame.

I think its a freaking awesome idea. If yes it was updated, and you could even find out what it was called, would be amazing. Ikea is great (especially in the US), only problem is the amount of s*** they have (and the stuff that they can't show). This gets around it all.

I don't have any of the sims stuff, but I'd actually be tempted, beats having to find the latest catalogue all the time.

@ Hardball

So Your going to go buy an ikea couch because of the way it looks in a GAME? $50 more than likely for a set of imaginary furniture. Sounds pretty hilarious to me, I mean the products In the game will look vaguely like those that you might find in the stores, if you apply your mind Again your misunderstanding me, whether by purpose or sheer lack of intelligence I'm not sure. Sims was good, wasting countless monies on stupid expansion packs that add stuff like a set of furniture....LOLable.
