EA have announced WarHammer Online: Age of Reckoning will have a simultaneous worldwide release (which means technically we and New Zealand get it first) this spring (presumably our spring) along with a dedicated regional server to ensure a more stable and well-monitored Aussie gaming experience. You'll still have the option of connecting to North American servers though, according to the press release. "Warhammer is a world-wide franchise with a strong following in Australia and New Zealand. By placing our own server down under and running customer service out of EA Mythic, we can ensure that when we launch WAR, Oceanic players will experience the same quality of game play and customer service as North American players" said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager of EA Mythic. It's nice to see we're being looked after and recognised by he gaming community at large. We have some information and screens about the game on our WarHammer Online: Age of Reckoning game page so stay tuned as we add even more info, videos and screens as they become available. |

Sounds good to me. With any luck, shift workers from the US will be able to see and join the oceanic which should help increase the server pop. |

Awesome news about there being a local server for Aussies and with any luck it will be an ongoing trend with more games in the future. Now all they need is a method for keeping all the Chinese farmers off the servers though I doubt that'll ever happen, sadly.

Is it? I know I've heard a lot of people asking for local servers, but then some of the people I know that play MMOs regularly tell me it'd be lame because there wouldn't be enough people (even for something like WoW) to keep it alive? |

Yeah, I doubt I'd play on an Australian server, busier server is better otherwise the ingame economy just ends up sucking. Plus its good having a decent amount of people who aren't from our timezone on the server, so that if you're playing at odd hours theres still enough people on to be able to run instances and do s***.

i like playing on us servers because im a shift worker.
whilst an aussie server sounds cool and all that, i enjoy the fact taht us servers are always busy due to there crazy lifestyles. |

I think there are many more aussie's playing mmo's than most would expect, in wow there are ton's spread out across many servers. I have a few american shift workers in my guild and they've said they don't care about getting the extra ping to an aussie server, as long as it's busy when they're on (which it is/would be).
Great news imo, my guild is considering rerolling to this after we give it a crack. |

It's actually good to see them giving us a server downunder and I really hope it succeeds as should it fail miserably, then it's unlikely any other company will put the effort in again in the future. Not entirely sold on WHO though, ausgamers exclusive beta test would be nice *nudgenudge* :P |

excellent news. also i assume americans will be able to connect to the aussie servers too, so that should give a boost to the pop.
Not entirely sold on WHO though its WAR. WHO was the old warhammer mmo that got scrapped. also steve theres no capital 'h' in warhammer. |

While I expect great things from WAR, I'm still holding my breath until I play the beta or something.
I think the argument is about whether the "h" in warhammer a capital or not. Like wellwellwell above me said, its Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. |

I will play it, on the Aussie server, I am prepared to pay for a slightly quieter experience if it encourages future thought into our gaming market.
A little pain now for a little love later. IMO, Ausgamers should host :) |

As good as a local server would be I will gladly suffer a double ping if it means playing on servers with less Asians. I have played games that are open the Asian countries before and quite frankly I'll never be doing it again.

hmmm play on an aussie server with 17832976 people who arent f*** heads. or play on an american server with 17832976 f*** heads who arent people. then theres American non-prime time, which consists of about 4 f***heads and no one else. |
