A couple of pro CS players have gotten together to write a book to impart their skills onto the masses:
Counter-Strike legends Ron "Rambo" Kim (2 time WCG champion, 2 time CPL champion, winner of over $385,000) and Ognian "steel" Gueorguiev (first CS player to hold WCG and CPL titles) have released a comprehensive guide to competitive Counter-Strike called TAO-CS (The Art Of Counter-Strike) The guide comes as an ebook with over 200 pages and 50 minutes of video footage containing audio commentary. As well as covering the basic topics such as weapon techniques and peripherals the index runs the entire gamut going in-depth into more advanced concepts like playing instincitively versus consciously, the effects of stimulants and sleep pattern on performance and 1vX theory. To further make it a unique product it comes with Rambo and steel's experiences and opinions on events they played and players and teams they played with and against.
Interested gamers with a spare US$30 can check it out.

A few rules of thumb:

* Burst assault rifle fire aimed at head. Statistically it will eventually connect with a head.
* Know maps well (obviously)
* Keep track of team-mates, enemies and time it takes to traverse map to avoid surprises.
* Don't rush in yourself

That's pretty much it. I don't play any more as TF2 is much more interesting and significantly more idiot-proof in terms of less annoying f***s who ruin the game (not that they are completely absent).

I dunno, TF2 is getting more frustrating when you're teamed up with retards who refuse to do even basic team work, eg, camping point C when A and B aren't capped.

People still play CS?

wow a book on CS. the only thing lamer than that is the people who buy it thinking once they have this, they will improve. CS is so like 5 - 8 years ago though

I dunno, i reckon it could help.

I read a book about pool and billiards years ago and my game improved an amount i would not have thought possible just by having a read.

Im sure it could give some people ideas and bring to light things theyd never considered that could really help them out.

that said, id probably do the same thing in their position to make some easy money.

I cry a bit over noob team-mate medics who sit with full uber for 5 minutes without activating it on me, but instead unknowingly heal the enemy spy I'm chasing around trying to kill .. and once I get within melee distance of the spy, the medic ubers him.

Like, f***.

More closely Kim, Gueorguiev and Shields guide you how to handle weapons, different game situations and give the basics of maps and training. This is salted with fifty (50) minutes of video footages. In short, every aspect of Counter-Strike 1.6 is explained.

You know I really did learn a lot about how to handle different guns, and team map tactics on forums and things. This is probably something like that.

btw look at this and then wtf

It may very well improve one's counter-strike abilities, but are they really abilities one should be improving?

Despite what "pros" would like to believe, there really isn't that much to it. It's mostly down to reaction time, not really something you could learn from a book, imo.
Well, obviously there's a little more to it than that, which is why those guys have managed to win over US$500,000 in prize money between them. Them's pretty good duckets.

lol obviously you guys have never played CS other than on the random public server. Theres alot more to it than you think, otherwise there wouldnt be countless professional leagues and thousands in prize money. Its all about maximising your chances.

Exactly as Jake said.

The funny thing is all pro players get along and can relate to each other regardless of the game they play its just the casual gamers who tell each other how noob each others games are.

I could understand if they published books about how to get better at Quake 3 / TF2 or Unreal Tournament but Counter Strike?

I don't understand what you are saying? Why is counter strike any different to q3/tf2 and whatnot when it comes to learning how to be better at it?

I believe the greatest differences in player skill is the way they think about the games they play and the other people that play it. Not so much any physical differences, so reflexes have little to do with it. Otherwise the game would always boil down to RUSH LEFT!

You know Toll that's funny because the guy who wrote this book, Ronald 'Rambo' Kim - we kicked ass at the CPL by rushing left. viva la rush left!
