You can now pre-purchase The Orange Box on Steam for $44.95 USD (which currently works out to around $54 AUD)
The Orange Box features three highly-awaited new games by Valve: Half-Life® 2: Episode Two, the second installment in the Half-Life 2 episodic trilogy; Team Fortress® 2, the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map; and Portal, the game that blends puzzles, first person action, and adventure gaming to produce an experience like no other.

To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life® 2: Episode One.
You will also be able to participate in the TF2 beta if you pre-purchase.
Starting Monday, September 17, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam can download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 (TF2).

Not really sure why you think an announcement about a game that is primarily multiplayer, and has a history of being multiplayer, would include any information about whether or not you'd be able to PLAY it multiplayer when it was released.

ie, no - no official announcement about server software has been released yet via their usual PR channels.

You can install HL2, HL2 Ep1 and HL2 Lost Coast. You can also pre-load TF2. But can't do anything with Ep2 or Portal until they are relased/available for pre-load

12/09/2007 06:46 PM 1,232,991,324 team fortress 2 materials.gcf

might be some content elsewhere, and it may not be all of that size since, the cache files are often bigger etc.

Last time I used Steam was when I bought HL2 when it got released and thought nothing of it. But after ordering that full package thingy last night and downloading everything I must say Steam is f***ing awesome. Woke up this morning and everything was done.

Looking forward to checking out ep 1 and that Lost Coast zone as well. My comp was pretty s***ty when that got released and now that I have something decent to run it on everything should look nice maxed out.

Also, that Peggle game that comes with the bundle is damn fun too. Very addictive.

Yeah, Peggle is addictive. My housemate and I both ordered Orange Box last night, and we got through the 10-level Peggle that came with it, and were itching for more... I might even have to buy the full game.

f*** I love this Steam proggy. Just bought the full Peggle game for $9.95 US and like a couple of minutes later I can play the thing.

This is either gonna be a very good or very bad thing for me. I can see myself buying games over Steam for the sheer convenience of not having to leave the house.

Nah theres 2 seperate ones, Peggle Extreme is 10 levels, Deluxe has something like 55 levels.

The demo of the Deluxe version is time limited at 60 mins, so I guess I completed somewhere around 25-30 levels in an hour.

apparently a little gamearena logo is supposed to show up in the little download box if you downloading off ga servers, but it isnt for me.

edit: wow tf2 is 4gb. downloading episode one now.

Beta will open about Tuesday 3-4pm in the afternoon for us at best.

Think that's roughly the time here in QLD/Aus when the first US State hits 2400hrs on the 16th (thus making it the 17th and beta opening)_

Starting Monday, September 17, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam can download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 (TF2). This year's most anticipated online action game, TF2 delivers new game types, a signature art style powered by Valve's next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more.

Gonna be awesome.

Cry more. Its the beta they're giving you access to, something special above and beyond the game you paid for. Its not the ACTUAL game coming out on the 17th. They could have easily not bothered letting people play the beta at all, but they did, as a special bonus for people who pre-ordered, and now you're getting s***ty at them?

When you paid for the Orange Box you paid to get the Orange Box, the TF2 beta wasn't listed anywhere on the collection of games you get when you purchased the Orange Box, so I don't see how you have any right to bitch and moan about not getting what you paid for. The release date for the Orange Box is October 18th and I'm sure on that day you'll get exactly what you paid for. They go out of their way to treat their fans to something special, give them a bit of a bonus for pre-ordering, and this is the thanks they get? Grow up.

I agree that its misleading, but they don't specify that you'll be able to play it on 17th Sept local time. Tis like those retarded "Spring" release dates. We don't whinge if they say Spring 07 which is 6 months earlier than Spring here...

Valve are an American company. They probably don't realise that there are different timezones across the rest of the world.

we are 15hrs ahead of east US, 16hrs central US, 18hrs pacific.

Obviously loki, boba and khel are still yet to enter the world of business, marketing and advertising... one day you will realise what misleading advertising is.

You sound like a petulant child. Valve is offering you free stuff that they really don't need to offer you, and you're complaining that you didn't get your free stuff as quick as you would like. Try having a little bit of patience and stop acting like a prick about it. 99% of games dont even have an open beta phase where you get to try the game out early, Valve is extending that privilege to you in this case so isn't that enough? Is the world going to end if its a day later?

Just watching some HL2 Ep2 trailers/in game vids on pootube. and it looks freakin awesome =]

Would rock on a newer engine but the gameplay and the story looks like it's going to be good.
Very open compared to the HL series we know. Striders tearing through forests with gunships/dropships flying overhead.
Looks very War of the Worlds (the Fag Cruise remake style) ish.

Can't wait for TF2 but also very keen to go through Ep2... Finished Ep1 yesterday in about 2.5 hours, very short and didn't like the indoors area but the ending etc. set up for Ep 2 nicely.

This was posted at ~ 2:30 which means the beta will be released hopefuly before 4:30pm our time.

Having a high steam rating prior to yesterday was a sign you took long ones up the wrong one.

WHY can't PayPal through Steam use the Bank Account stuff? I bought BioShock with my bank account in PayPal but now they want credit cards, which I don't have :(

Sif a DVD is better then Steam anyway.

Rocked up to a LAN with a new computer the other day, signed into my account, presto, in 30 minutes I'm ready to roll... anytime, anywhere.

Steam just f***ing rocks.

I'm really impressed with Episode 2. The storyline is really well done and the visuals are f***ing amazing. Everything looks so nice and polished. Haven't played a decent single player game like this for a very long time.
