2K Games have announced that the anticipated BioShock has gone gold and will be available here in Australia on August the 24th. Don't know anything about BioShock?
BioShock is a first-person shooter that lets players do things never before possible in the genre. Nearly everything in the game can be turned into a weapon; players can biologically modify their bodies with plasmids, hack devices and systems, upgrade weapons and craft new ammo variants, and experiment with different battle techniques.
Also news is that Australian developer Irrational Games is now known as 2K Australia, to "symbolize the studios’ further integration into the 2K Games family following their outstanding performance on BioShock".

Update: Xbox 360 owners can now check out the demo on Xbox Live.

Sounds interesting. Have you guys got a review underway as yet Trog? I'm wondering how the ideas have translated into game play.

Try googling? Its one of the most anticipated games atm, first reviews gave it like 95% (I think a UK magazine which gave HL1 96% and HL2 94%) So it looks like it works.

very, very, VERY excited about this game. buying an ex-box just so i can play it.

You'd be much better of putting that cash towards a decent video card in a PC if you ask me

12 bazillion console owners would get rolled by a monkey using a mouse+keyboard.

everyone who whinges about controllers being s*** for fps are just too impatient to bother grasping it, and it makes me wonder how they ever worked out how to use mouse look in fps.

but more on topic, this game kicks off the end of year game season *well thats what im calling it* from now till december we have some f***ing awesome titles coming out for 360 and pc

the controllers are s*** because you control acceleration not actual rotation. its better than keyboard, but still gay.

Controllers are surly inferior to keyboard/mouse combo for FPS games. They are adequate, do what you need. It is just that keyboard and mouse combo is better.

EDIT: Directly hooking the brain up to the computer would be superior to both, bring that s*** on!

impatient to bother grasping it,
Yeah i mean its such a complex concept, look up, look down, move left, move right... you must be descended from einstein or something to have such a thorough understanding of it.

Downloaded the demo overnight on the 360. Man, the graphics are amazing. 1.3gig is a big demo for the 360 though.

I spose thats why they had to SPECIFICALLY REBALANCE THE GAME FOR PC TO MAKE IT HARDER BECAUSE IT WAS TOO EASY ON THE PC WITH THE SUPERIOR CONTROLLING SYSTEM. :P

I'm surprised at just how easy this game is to control on the 360. They have done a great job.

I downloaded the demo this morning...I was going to hold out for the actual full game on the 24th as I'm getting the PC version but I couldn't! ITS f***ING AWESOME! Reminds me so much of System Shock in the sense that they just nailed the f***ing environment. It just oozes it. It's spooky, and quirky and it's got f***ing voice recordings scattered around the place just like in SS2!! 9 days until my collectors edition, only NINE!

Haha, penny arcade has a great Bioshock quote:

It is my intention to secure two copies of the game, entire - one Collectors' edition, and one exclusively to shove up Roger Ebert's ass. If Bioshock isn't "art", then art is the poorer for it.

f***ing hell, you bastards need to stop bitching and moaning about controllers vs keyboard and mouse. What are you trying to achieve? The PC version is there for you to play, so it's not like you need to prove anything.

Wouldn't there be a k/b and mouse coming out for the 360 soon anyway? There's meant to be a kb & mouse coming out for the PS3 around the time UT3 comes out.

I'm pretty sure the UT3 thing on PS3 is that it supports standard USB keyboard and mouse, not that there's a specific one coming out for the PS3.

I wouldn't use a keyboard and mouse on a console anyway, kinda defeats the point. How am I supposed to lay on my big comfy lounge playing games if I have to deal with a keyboard and mouse?

I've currently got my PC hooked up to my 42" LCD in the lounge room and it works quite nicely with the keyboard on my lap and the mouse on the arm of the couch, that said the arms of my couch are quite wide so mouse movement isn't too effected. Obviously not for everyone though.

Well I would be bitching if Bioshock was only available on a console, but it's not..it's on both - so there's on reason to bitch because you can play it however you want! Lets just be happy.

the problem with pc games developed concurrently with the console version is when they've dumbed it down for console.

deus ex 2 for instance. the game sucked because it was about as interactive as a choose your own adventure book.

BioShock has had two separate teams tweaking the controls and gameplay for each platform specifically.

That's because System Shock 2 wasn't a fluke, they can make good games, very good games.

I'm hoping this game is equal to or better the ss2. If it is, I'll put it in that little shelf in my mind occupied by the fallout series and golden axe.

controls don't mean s***. its easy to make a mouse work.

deus ex 2 sucked because they made it a game that you could sit down pick up and play in 5 minutes, then not play for days and pick up and play again. the original you'd want to play for 5 hours straight. not that it was the greatest game ever, but it was actually immersive. de1 if you found a note with someones ATM code on it, it'd store the note in your logs, and if you found atm you'd have to find the note in your logs and enter it yourself. de2, if you do the same thing when you read the note its stored in the log same as always, but when you go to an ATM it automatically enters it for you. it sounds trivial, but it ruins the immersion totally. you might as well just forget that s*** all together and collect red, blue and green keys.

system shock 2 was like de1, you had to read s*** to know when and how to use it. it was awesomely immersive. you had to read notes, you had to listen to recordings. it was cool.

Haha, I know whenever I want good, honest game reviews, I read Playboy.

I played the demo last night and it was very, very awesome, but I stopped before I'd gone too far cos I didn't want to spoil anything :P Just wanted to get a small taste to tide me over.

Unless it was in the default package or if by magic everybody got one at the same time, nobody would develop for it.
