Some fixes/changes:
- Added Vista supportIf your client doesn't auto prompt you to update, you can grab it here. Doesn't seem too bad so far, I find the removal of the 0.0k torrent speed a little strange to get used to but maybe it can be turned back on, haven't looked yet. promoted forum item |

For those of you who want to make the effort, there is a beta of the web UI front-end released which can be found here: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=14565
Definitely worth using if you want to view/change your torrents remotely. Installation isn't just point and shoot and for some strange reason the person hates IE6, but I find it useful. |

Dear uTorrent, Can't tell you how long I've been wanting that. Surely it would be more important than Vista support :) last edited by Nailbomb at 17:48:16 13/Jul/07 |

I don't understand why I get such slow speeds from popular torrents.
Even with 52(1075) peers [whatever that means], I still get only 15-30kb/s download. My ports are open and forwarded, and the connection settings are set to 47kbs max upload and 52kbs max download. The same default setting, set when selecting a 512kb connection in the speed guide app. |

too many peers, not enough seeds.
and upload will rape your download. |

atm
Seeds = 16(239) Peers = 48 (1084) Up = ~12kbs Down = ~10kbs |

limit your max upload speed to 6kb/s and set max peers to around 1/4 of your max connections.
I'm not really an expert on it though, someone else will probably have uber settings for you. |

Yep, it was a hassle figuring out how to forward ports on my router but I got it.
Port forwarding for DLink routers are under the virtual server settings. very confusing Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker. Cl1nt, I was worried about setting upload speeds too low, as I have heard that at a certain cutoff point utorrent starts to limit your download speed. I'll try it out though anyway. Thanks for the info |

suprisingly, clinty is right!
too much upload will kill your connection for a 512 connection, i woudlnt have upload any higher than 64k |

TorrentFreak: What was the main reason behind the acquisition of uTorrent? So BitTorrent Inc own uTorrent. And it turns out BitTorrent Inc have strong links with 20th Century Fox, Lions Gate, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc. I found this terrific thread on a forum when searching for information on utorrent settings.
It's quite easy to read and understand and has helped me increase download speeds by about 50% Recommended |

Just keep in mind the Port Test via uTorrent isn't 100% reliable in some situations.
If you're on a LAN with another torrent-user and the port you selected actually gets forwarded to him, the Port Test will pass but your client is still not configured properly. Just something to keep in mind. |

is it still s*** ? The speed? The speed has increased from an avg of 10kBs to 18kBs. Also another torrent I had, this one well seeded with few peers, has increased from 22kBs to 41.5kBs (just .5 below the global max download speed). I wasn't running both at the same time. |

So BitTorrent Inc own uTorrent. Is that for real? I guess if you can't beat em, buy em. And then beat em. Edit: Original post = wires crossed last edited by IncrEdible_vEgetable at 11:50:02 16/Jul/07 |

I've heard that some ISPs de-prioritise torrent traffic as well, which can lead to slow speeds. If you want to get around it, turn on packet encryption in your torrent client.

I've heard that some ISPs de-prioritise torrent traffic as well, which can lead to slow speeds. TPG, Exetel, Westnet ... Though that hasn't stopped my friend leeching 100GB+/month on an 18GB TPG plan (shaped to 128kbps but downloading continuously). If you want to get around it, turn on packet encryption in your torrent client. Doesn't always help. |

why would it really matter if torrent data is de-prioritised? it should still get there, or to you. i doubt latency is that much of a concern.

It's the fact that the pipes don't have infinite bandwidth. They basically shape P2P (usually at peak times) to make sure that they never hit network capacity. To what extent they shape P2P is unknown .. if they wanted they could very well shape P2P even when there's plenty of bandwidth to spare, just to keep costs down (backhaul charges, etc). |

why would it really matter if torrent data is de-prioritised? it should still get there, or to you. i doubt latency is that much of a concern. It isn’t just “latency”. Essentially, high priority traffic is processed first, and then p2p traffic is handled when there is free load. The end result is that if there is a lot of high priority traffic, p2p slows right down; because there is less bandwidth to handle the p2p traffic. Now, if there is also a lot of p2p traffic, your copy of “Innocent until proven filthy” basically grinds to a halt; available bandwidth for de-prioritised traffic is limited which causes de-prioritised traffic to queue.
