EA have released some details on their upcoming EA Sports Rugby 08, coming soon - along with the Rugby World Cup, taking place in France. The new stuff:

This year EA SPORTS Rugby 08 introduces a layered pick-up-and-play control system for set pieces and drop kicks. Now you take full command over every scrum and maul with enhanced push and rotation controls. Make lineout throw-ins look easy with a simplified control scheme for the novice player and advanced mechanics for the pro. Master the new kicking meter to score those key penalties and conversions, while new truck and zoom camera angles zero in on all the breakdown and set piece action during the game’s biggest moments.

Some screenies accompany the press release. Weirdly, it sounds like this is only coming for the PlayStation 2.

Yeah... compared to any of the latest gen sports games out that looks horrible... the crowd is just a flat texture.

i really enjoyed rugby06 on xbox and was looking forward to this one. I'm a nrl fan myself but the 2 nrl games REALLY blows. Also if this really is a ps2 only then damn....

It'll be on everything else closer to september or just after i think, they'll have it co-incide with the Rugby world cup...

I for one have never found the graphics or the play of any of the rugby games to be any good but I'm a diehard rugby fan and buy them anyway.. its the only to settle scores with mates who ridicously support teams like the spring boks, the allblacks and the 'wallabies'.. ppfftt Ireland to take the cup this year!!!!
