Frogster Interactive announces a remake of Speedball 2 is in the works: In the third quarter of 2007, Frogster Interactive is set to publish Speedball 2 as the longed-for sequel to the Amiga classic. The new release on PC transforms the futuristic game setting with the help of state-of-the-art technology into a high-speed online sports spectacle. Offering international leagues, a large-scale ranking system and a virtual marketplace, Speedball 2 pulls all the registers of modern multiplayer gaming action. Fully customisable characters from cyborg to amazon, dynamic sports battles, and continuous community support will convince sports simulation enthusiasts, action fans, and e-sports cracks likewise. An official site is up but there's not a lot else there yet. Awesome news; this game is one of my all time classics and it will certainly be interesting to see if they can keep the original gameplay spirit alive with new technology. |

Speedball 3 was supposed to be an Unreal Engine-based game (called Speedball Arena). It dropped off the radar, haven't heard anything about it.
You know what I would like to see as part of this? Speedball 2 (the original) released as a free game. That would really help drive sales and would be awesome for all the fans that love the original game. I've long, long since lost my boxed copy of this - I bought it over 10 years ago and have no idea where it ended up :( |

Speedball 2 rocked. I think alot of people that had it on PC didn't even realize you could play seasons and have a roster and stuff.
Bitmap brothers rocked in general. |

Cool!
I have both original games, but I definitely preferred the first one. I liked it how the tougher your opponent was the more android they looked. |

I found my old copy of this lying around in a zip file in an archive directory on my linux box and have been playing it on the weekend. f*** its a cool game! Doesn't seem to work properly under XP though - I alt tab, then come back and the video is f***ed up. Would love to be able to run in a window as well - can you force DOS apps to do that?
Still s***s me that you can't skip the intro scene. |

Still s***s me that you can't skip the intro scene. That is on my list of top 10 things computer games should never do. Unskippable cut scenes and intro's. Sure for the first viewing, dont allow skipping, however after that there is no excuse. |

Speedball 2 omfgawwwwwwwwwwwd. I still remember all the teams.. Brutal Deluxe, Turbo Hammers, Super Nashwan, Fatal Justice. It really kicked ass when you had your team decked out with the mutants like Jams and Monteze.
I remember being able to skip the intro toll.. maybe your copy wasn't cracked like mine *remembers uber Skid Row intro*. /nostalgia |

On a somewhat related topic, Richard Joseph (composer for Speedball 2) is dead. Link

Oh yeah. Bring it on. I remember When the first 2 came out and they were so popular along with games like Magic Pockets and Gods.

I dug out our REALLY old laptop that runs Win95 just so I could play Speedball 2 on it properly. Made it through the league game but haven't won overall yet. I find that instead of saving up to trade players, upgrading your team evenly is the best thing to do. BUT, you max out at 220!! WTF? Then you have to trade heaps of money for only slightly better players.
Anyone had any fun on the other modes of the game? |
