Another game has joined the ranks of the ever-growing list of awesome free games that you can download and play online - Savage. You can download the client locally from AusGamers. (The game has actually been "free" for a while, but there were some issues preventing this from becoming the official status.) Download and enjoy! |

doob, yep - it's a RPG style FPS with commander elements. It looks really cool; I always meant to give it a crack. No doubt Ross will be along soon extolling the virtues of it.
I have a server up on GA but I can't test it as my laptop is too poverty, so any feedback would be good. |

I personally thought it was brilliant when you could get yourself a decent commander and people who would actually follow orders.
I spent a few months straight getting really good at the commander aspect of the game and found it to be a very challenging yet satisfying experience when you gained the trust of the people playing and kitted them out with some fantastic gear and watched them steamroll the oposition :). Thanks for the heads up on the freeware Trog :) |

I am encountering one big problem though even though everything about the press release says I shouldnt be.
It's asking me for a Cd key as soon as I load the game and wont let me progress without it even though everyone says it shouldnt be doing that at all... Anyone having a similar problem? *edit* I checked out the update thing and you need to enter "00000000000000000000" as your CD key, I hope this helps out others getting this thing. last edited by Xy at 12:11:39 02/Sep/06 |

Anyone having a similar problem?Nope - but I read the instructions on the file download page :P Re: Servers - apparently new servers take a day or so to show up in the in-game browser. The GA server is accessible through The Arena or via Direct IP - see servers page for details. |

- Minimap drawing for commanders with a nearly unlimited range of colors; classy and efficient, yet hardly takes any bandwidth. Just right click on the minimap & get started!Looks great. If it's stable and stuff I can't see how it wouldn't be good to have on the GA servers last edited by Hashy at 18:19:20 05/Sep/06 |

Hahah this was heaps of fun.
I was just playing with Tox and Term on GA. Took me awhile to work out what the hell was even going on or how to fight decently.. took me awhile to even realise there was levels and that's why I kept getting owned by some guys :) |

At first try not to just charge in, go mine some rock and help build the buildings and hunt a few monsters to gain some levels and gold which will help you out later in the game when you go to upgrade before spawning.
Use your long range weapons to weaken your enemy as much as possible before closing when you play humans since the beast players like to use carnivore alot which means with every melee hit they heal themselves. The reverse with beast, get in close and carve them up and heal as your doing so, if your lucky sometimes you can tear through a group of humans in no time and come out with close to full health :D. Listen to what your commander says, he can see most of the battlefield whereas you cant, if he says return to base cause its under attack, do it because you will be the one crying later when you cant get coil rifles or behemoths anymore because the enemy destroyed your home buildings. Also help out mining redstone every now and then if your waiting for an upgrade before attacking and you have enough gold because it will help all that stuff move along alot quicker. Even only 2 or 3 guys helping mine can make a massive difference to the commanders redstone resources and get your teams economy ticking along faster towards victory. Thats just some basic tips for now :) |

Rabid is also very good for the beasts, I prefere it over carn. Every hit you regen your stamina so you can keep leaping around, making you harder to hit and harder for them to block. Just need to get the timing down on your hits so you don't miss and find yourself without any stamina. Take a frenzy crystal with you, should help out a bit too.

Hey Tollazor I think I saw you in a game the other day. There was a player called Tollazor there, so I assume that was you :)
We should set up a list of names so we can look out for each other in games. |

I would personally be playing savage 24/7 if I hadn't fallen in love with oblivion and decided to have its babies.

I've gotten heavily back into savage (loved the demo, but I wasn't convinced there would be an online community for it during retail).
Man, this game is freaking awsome. Its like an RTS, but every individual unit is a person, which makes it both interesting for commander as people can easily disobey you, and the player, who gets a great deal of satisfaction after soloing 4 other beast players defending the position by themselves by the redstone mine. GameArena has like 4 servers up for it... Last night at 3am, I was still playing on the 64 player server (48 players inside, you usually want at least 12v12). GameArena also has the SEP packs installed. The only problem is the ease in which any noob can take the commander position early in the game, and with their noobness slow the start tech considerably makes it a roll-over for any decent commander. The greatest aspect of this game for me is... You can make a difference, you, yourself, if you're any good at action games (<3 skills from ut) you can pwn it up something royal in an attack as (assuming you have a good connection) control when you swing, fire, sprint, dodge, block. Just the other night, I went solo in direction compared to most of the team at the start... I saw 4 beasts running towards me, a little bow action injured 1 and kill another, 3 left. All 3 come at me swinging, using strafe and some stamina for sprint, I dodged out of the way and over the bridge they came from, I was quickly followed. I jumped under the bridge and proceeded through the tunnel, a beast lepped at me, I used block as he took a swing, I took minimal damage and his attack was disabled for a few seconds, I laid into him with my deadly hatchets, 2 left. After a little fancy footwork around the beasts, I hacked into each of them after they'd missed their latest barrage of swings, taking the opportunity presented in the small attack delay between each volly of swings. last edited by DirtyMexican at 12:00:57 14/Sep/06 |
