Soo, for those of you who havent checked out the demo and realised that this is a rock solid title worth your dosh and then some, heres a nudge to check it out before its due for release at the end of this month.

The review copy sent to the office here at Mammoth HQ has been running hot, just about everyone in the office has had a crack at it, with it getting a resounding thumbs up from everyone here.

With just about every new release out there coming into the place, its my general litmus test of whats going to do well and what isnt, and it hasnt failed yet. Titan Quest is a diablo clone with elements of WoW in it too, has a really good class based charater system and like diablo, you progress though levels by going from normal, to nightmare, and hardcore so will keep you playing for a while.

Check out the demo if you havent right here on AusGamers, and watch out for it in stores! More info on the game can be found on the official Titan Quest site.

This game does look pretty awesome - the demo got mehooked. With the incredible success of Diablo 2, I don't see why there aren't more games like this out there.

Also, the final game will have a map editor as well, so it should increase the replayability even more! Wootage!

Looks good, I'm still after something to withhold my returning urges to play WoW, might just give this a shot.

It's been getting pretty s***ty reviews

Gamespot gave it 7.6
IGN gave it 8.1

The main problem that both sites had with the game was that it was too similar to Diablo II, and really did nothing new. Wow bloody wee, who cares, Diablo II owned, if this is just D2 with awesome graphics then I'm sold! Why does this game suffer so much in the originality department, when all GTA3.5/GTA3.6 got like 9+/10.

Obviously they didn't bribe the right people for positive reviews.

I think they are both pretty good ratings.

I haven't touched it yet so forgive the stupidity of the question - but does it have online support like D2 had with battle.net ?

Where do you work Term?

I don't have faith in most gaming sites for reviews - I do like Gamespot though, but I must say that I disagree with the review they posted for Titan Quest. That being said, a demo is, and always will be the best way for you to figure out if you like a game.

There was a time where demos were few and far between, this has changed a fair bit in the last 6-12 months - most of the big release games have had demos...and even some of the smaller ones.

He works at Mammoth Media, which runs Gamearena for Telstra. Most of the guys there also where (are?) admins for QGL/Ausgamers.

I'd guess he's talking about gamearena though.

I've got some hopes for this game, but I'm not sure how well it will sell. Battlenet is really what made the diablo series so popular, and without a comparable online presence it may well simply fade into obscurity.

If the hack and slash co-op in it is fun then this will be on my play list for a considerable period of time in the future

I gave it a ran and .. I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be. Lots of graphic glitches (backgrounds not displayin on character panels), textures missing, an annoying font that is barely readable at 1600x1200, clumsyish interface (trying to pick items up).

Mind you I only gave it an hour, perhaps it'll get better *fingers crossed*

I have no graphics glitches playing it on my pc at work or home, there are two filters for seeing loot that's dropped. z for all loot and x for colored loot?

the way it stacks s*** in your bag is gay though

The loot thing should take a leaf from WoW - right click a corpse and get a listing of what's on it. I don't have time to click all around the ground to pickup stuff.

It's more like open bnet; there's no character storage to discourage cheats, so don't expect to get anything much out of it unless playing with friends

Haven't tried out multiplayer yet - I never really got into D2 for battle.net, we just had a LAN for a day or two...usually we would end up just as we completed the second difficulty setting, so when the expansion came out it took quite a while.

As far as the single player game goes, well I'm only up to level 5 so far - I'll play some more over the weekend.

1) The graphics are pretty, but there are problems with the framerate, usually it will run smoothly but when I enter in a cave, and it goes semi-transparent it chugs like a little bitch. Also there have been times when I've been fighting and it's fluctuated quite a lot.

2) I need to format my machine because I had problems with the securom protection. I installed the game and it said "f*** off, you stupid hax0ring biatch", so I had to run some crazy VBS script that hacked my registry, and I un-installed daemon tools....ugh. I BOUGHT THIS f***ING GAME I WANT TO PLAY IT WITHOUT f***ING WITH MY SYSTEM. BUt yeah, I realise it works for some people with daemon tools/alcohol etc, so I probably need to format my machine.

3) So far so good, the game is very hacky and slashy. I loved D2, and this is basically the same except a) Different setting, and b) much prettier graphics. I don't know how scaleable the game is, so a LAN might be out of the question as half my friends have s***ty PCs.

I've had a problem that after i have un rar'd it, i start the installer, and when it gets too where do I want to install the game. It tells me that 165gb isnt enough space, and I cant get any further, I tried the other hdd's and then I copyied the installer onto each and tried that way...

I've downloaded from 2 places now...

well it was off, so i switched to on and tried again, and nope. Just says "There is not enough space to install these option(s). Please free up some disk space or modify your selections."

me and a couple of mates grabbed TQ and were trying it out, multiplayer is fun but we we're getting constant crashes
Tim Tibbetts

Most of the crashes I've heard about are from people that have downloaded the game, and are using a no CD crack. I'm not saying that's what you've done though.....

I purchased the game and it hasn't crashed for me once yet.

I rented it from my local video store, great game!! No crashes here. Renting is the way to go, try before you buy!

Apparently a patch will be coming out around July 5 (or 6 for us)

# Improved auto-placement of inventory items
# Fixed NPC dialogue windows closing when NPC moves to avoid other characters
# Added character back-up functionality which will help prevent corrupted characters
# Improved multiplayer stability and performance

I get some graphics glitches. A little bit of chugging on transition between indoors and outdoors, and a pile of artifacting followed by system hang a couple of times, but I think that was a result of new heatsink on graphics cards (X1900 XT Crossfire at 1920x1200).

Sound gets a little crackly at times too, will look at settings there. Overall I think its a very fun game, shameless rip of Diablo's formula, but it works for me :) Too bad it doesn't offer online character storage, that means it'll be like Dungeon Seige and die very quickly online. No point playing when everyone just hacks characters.

Yea its pretty good, fixed most of the crashing issues but still get a few occasionally, to anyone who said you get no crashes, is that in multiplayer? Because single player is rock solid. Multiplayer I get crashes now and then, and sometimes clients fall far out of sync (could be the cause of crashes actually). But yea it's been fun, got to egypt yesterday, I like how they've tied in a bit of history into the game, and some of the in game scultupres/artwork etc is somewhat realistic of the era.

Can you explain how the multi-player system works?

like is it like an FPS where you search for open games or is there just a instant joiner. Or is there a gamespy sort of thing? can you share items? is there like ctf or something like that? the demo didn't have the answers :(

Its co-op. EXP/monster scaling just like D2, ie more players = tougher monsters and more exp and better drops. You can make or stay out of parties. You can trade with other players in your party by right clicking their portrait in the party list, or you can just drop your stuff on the ground of course.

Not sure how player killing works, not really interested in it though. I have found the monsters are a bit too easy to kill on the first difficulty, I'm guessing it'll get much tougher on the next two, so I'm looking forward to finishing it

does anyone know if you must have a swap file to play the game?

I have 2gb of ram in my pc and dont run a swap file. When I tried to play the demo, I got an error telling me I had to have a swap file enabled to play. Is this also the case with the full version? Seems dumbass to me, as my system didnt seem to be using > 2gb ram while playing the game anyway.

you can start the game with -pvp in the shortcut and you can kill people out of your group. But pvp isn't supported.

i've found all levels easy as until legendary, so so hard

ummm, having a swap file slows s*** down... machine has to page and write to the swap file in the first place.

Why pretend you're hard drive is ram when you dont have to? its only orders of magnitude slower... :\

If you want high performance, use a swapfile, just put it inside a ramdrive instead of on your hdd. No more issues.

The game is stable as in multiplayer if you aren't a complete nubcake.

If you're having issues MSN me on sin308 -> gmail.com
I will tell you how to fix eet, Rubba and I spent about an hour and a half last night and haxxed it up to make it sweet.

Athschlong XP 2700+
6600GT (AGP)
1GB Ram.

Initially ran like s*** on 800x600 all on low (like 2fps).
Now runs flawless on 1024x768 med all (might even crank it higher).

Quickest fix seems to be running the game in win98/me compatibility mode, and disabling advanced text services and theme support (compatibility tab of titan quest.exe). But that makes the game run worse on some machines.

I don't have any problems with the above config unless im hosting a session, in which case it tends to chug to s*** when people portal/join the game etc, though as far as i know it does that without compat mode enabled anyway

No, buy the game you dirty inconsistent random 5sec - 5 min crashing pirate!. (yes, I know you have a pirated copy! I also know you're using a cracked exe! And I also know it's an exe of aids)

My post will get nuked if I explain it anyway, so again, no.
And just especially no for you, just because.

Nope.
I have no issues with any chugging whatsoever -except- when hosting and a player joins the game.
However when I host, despite there being no visual slowdowns, when there is 3+ people playing people would lose connection.
The same thing happens when Rubba hosts but not as frequent, although he says he gets alot of visual chugging as well (when 4 of us are fighting a tonne of mobs at once).

We tried stuffing around with compatibility and it didn't do s***e, we had 2 people playing then up to 4 people playing for around 4 hours just now with only one actual crash (and maybe around 3 Synch D/C's).
