Atari have laid down the smack on the OFLC, saying that the decision to ban Getting Up has been made by a "tyrannical government". Seriously!

Yesterday afternoon on Triple J's excellent Hack programme last night, Steve Cannane interviewed Maureen Shelley from the OFLC, who was involved in the decision (you can download the audio here).

Tonight, Triple J actually have Marc Ecko (the namesake of the game) in the studio for an interview. Tune in at 5.30pm AEST to listen (mp3, RM and WM available).

I hope Marc isn't going to have much luck with the appeals getting his product into Australian markets. During the interview he came up with 'oh they don't understand the technology behind this' and 'I've built a billion dollar empire on this and I want to see whats right' and other such bully tactics.

Firstly the monetary motivation behind this shines through like a star exploding in your face.

For a guy trying to do business without his hands tied as he put it, he's sure going about getting that understanding the wrong way.

I personally think he's half riding on the success of the Tony Hawk franchise and the whole 'its cool to be street' thing, half trying to differentiate himself from that so that he presents his product as this new and innovative gameplay idea. Which it isn't.

The media itself is bordering on stale, he's just rekindling that light in an attempt to market it his way.

If he wants to see what innovative gameplay is like, go have a play of something like Eve.

ive got the mobile version of the game on my phone.

the game isnt about tagging and being a d******* like most taggers are,

its about a city thats gone to the dogs with corruption and a guy who just happens to be a tagger stepping up and telling em to get f***ed.

its your typical vigilante story in a modern urban envrionment,
