Last night the CPL made an offical ruling on the controversial 'blue' bug, where number 2 seeded Blue was knocked out of the CPL 128 man standings by a glitch:

The CPL officials have been investigating allegations of irregularities in the game modification used at the Babbage's CPL $100,000 Quake 3 Tournament, that may have caused the highly seeded player Henrik "Blue" Bjoerk to suffer a disadvantage during his second round match.
The CPL is now aware that some aspects of the game modification may in fact have caused irregularities in latency in a match between Henrik "Blue" Bjoerk and Mark "Excaliber" Cowley.

The CPL has decided to grant Mr. Bjoerk's an equivalent 9th to 12th place finish to insure future proper seeding.

The CPL extends its apologies to the entire professional gaming community for the unfortunate incident surrounding the highest profile tournament of the year.

I have to say I'm nothing but impressed with the whole way the CPL have handled this, shows amazing professionalism to actualy stand up and be counted when the chips are down.

While according to the CPL terms and conditions agreement, item five: "Game software used for tournament competition was developed by, and is the property of, id Software. The tournament management software is developed by, and is the property of, Eventricity. Other software packages, including game modifications, may also be used by the CPL during tournaments. The CPL, id Software, Eventricity, the software developers, publishers or the Sponsors assume no liability for any error or malfunction caused by the software(s) that could result in the disqualification or under performance of a contestant," the CPL officials are currently discussing if the tournament place change should be accompanied by a change in the cash prize structure for Mr. Bjoerk. A final decision on this matter will be made in a few days.

Looks like the Lawyers just earned their pay getting that one in. I'd guess now though the CPL WILL give Blue the money too, even though they don't have to.

From what I hear Blue complained to a CPL admin straight after his match. His complaint was dismissed. It was only later when his demo was released to the public, and there was a community uproar on websites and IRC did the CPL even start to look into the matter. By then it was too late.

Blue was the number 2 seed and was probably going to be a major force in the competition. It is a real shame that CPL incompetence denied Blue a fair go.
