They are unpaid positions, but they are an awesome opportunity if you have an interest in software development (especially games development) - beta testing is an integral phase and gives valuable insight into the procedures that go into the software process.

I was lucky to get a tour of aurans building when i was down in brisbane. has a great room full of computers for beta testers to come in and sit down and those most impressive recording studio i have seen.

Sorry, did you say EA, the biggest games company IN THE WORLD? Just checking. They can afford to spend a little more money in their beta testing procedures. Game development in Australia is something that is relatively new; there's not heaps of game dev companies that have made a bundle at all, let alone ones in .au.

True, I understand that some games companies may also only offer an unpaid position to be sure that they get only the most enthusiastic of staff. Which probably also means they get the staff that lack the abilities of industry proffessionals who actually know the areas and have the expertise...

But yes, I understand what you mean about the Australian games industry...and I commend the guys (and gals) that are making an effort at it - especially the ones on low/negligable incomes...

Hey! Who you saying lacks ability? :) The weird thing is, I didnt even know Auran was developing a game at the moment. Havent heard anything about them at all after responsibilty for Dark Reign 2 was passed on to Pandemic. I put 'RPG' as my favorite genre, what about you ineff?

Okay, I just went to the Auran site (fantastic design by the way) and it seems they have a few products in the pipeline. 'Auran Jet', 'Trainz', 'Koozthingz(?)' and 'Harn: Bloodline'. Jet is already in public beta testing, and I think Trainz may already be out so who knows what we are in for.

I'm sorry Taipan, you aren't the oldest, we have other applicants, in there late 30's, and these are females. (That blows that sterotype out of the water.) . We actually had a father in his late 40's early 50's that hasn't played games b4, run the test and it got right into it.
