Numerous sources have confirmed that the long, long, long awaited beta version of Tribes 2 has gone gold. Apparently the first people will be getting it maybe sometime next week - the .au crew will probably be a bit behind so can expect to wait a bit longer for their CDs.

So, the delay in beta will probably push back the release date a little bit. It'll be interesting to see if they can squeeze it out for Christmas - and if they do, if it will be the normal patchware product that we've all come to know and love.

Actually, here's a bit of a rant - I went to play Tribes for the first time in ages the other day, and found I didn't have the latest version (unsurprisingly). I went to download it, and saw there wasn't a single upgrade from any previous version - so I had to follow this bizarre, convoluted upgrade path. Fortunately, the first patch I tried failed straight away when it couldn't find release.txt, so I was spared the indignity of having to go through all the other patches.

There are many patches for Tribes and you need the right one. They aren't *that* big compared to say the HL or CS ones so im sure you can download the full one. Not too much trouble as Tribes still is in my opinion the best multiplayer game ever.

The software is easy to manage if you have lived and breathed tribes for the last 18 months or more..Yes it appears to be difficult to establish the game content, but the final outcome is well worth it... Not much different really to some quake servers..Every time I joined for a while the damn thing had a new map or patch on it....So the frustration works both ways..
