Ok here it is I was reading a few review's on burner's Because I want to buy one soon.I have narrowed it down to these 4.

AOpen CRW-1232
Creative CD-RW Blaster 121032
Shintaro CDR120
Yamaha CRW2100EVK

Now I picked these based on a review from PC Authorities Feb issue if you can think of any better ones let me know.I'd particularly like to hear from anyone who has any of the aboved named burners.

Thanx

they're probably all pretty damn good, allthough I would probably tend to base my opinion more on the local prices that I could get them for and thier availability.

The mag I got these from is an aussie mag so I presume that they should be fairly easay to get, thats just a guess though.

I want a burner primarily for putting my mp3's onto cd and not much else.If I can't get a good idea of which one is a stand out I've been thinking of just buying a Nomad jukebox,I know they are very pricey but I don't realy care.

a lost of the burners are very similar these days
step 1: big buffer
step 2: get nero
step 3: pirate like hell er i mean make back ups of your purchased cd's

Sounds ok Acid but how much memory does it have?

I have about 3gig of mp3's and to be honest the size of the Nomads memory is what impressed me as I want to put as much music on a player as possiable.

umm are we looking at burners like the thread is on or are we looking at mp3 players....make up your mind..
*edit* (stupid freakin forum...)
anyways....i got a ricoh 12*10*32 burner with Nero 5 for arpund 399...in the 2 months i've had it it hasn't made a coaster
as for Mp3 players, you are prolly better off getting a nomad if you aren't gonna get a burner for mp3's, if that makes sense...otherwise just get a mp3 cd player + burner, and if you really want you could hook the player to ur car etc....

yeah, it plays mp3 data cds, so it may not have the 6GB or whatever the overpriced nomad has,
but I carry 30MP3 cd's around in my bag, so you do the math.

Of course, you need a burner.

I guess I want a burner so I can make music CD's and therefor be able to take them place to listen to.Now although I could use a burner to make Cd's of other things that sort of stuff isn't a big priority for me at the moment.

However if I do get the Nomad it'll give me the portability that I want plus the ability to store all my mp3's somewhere other than my PC.Of course it doesn't do anything else so in that reguard a burner would allowme to do more.

when using pc recreationaly, it goes without saying, if you dont have direct access to a burner, then you need a burner

basically, decide how much you want to spend, how fast you want it to go and if you want re-write capability.

then look for a decent price, or a brand that you trust.

I guess then I'd have to go for the Creative burner as I have heard nothing but good reports about all of Creatives stuff.

And also make sure you know what you want it for, no use gettin it for mp3's then realise you want one for something else ooher

I bought a ricoh 12x10x32 too.
Damn good drive.
Thing to watch out with ricoh is, MP7120 is the early version, has a 4mb buffer.
Ricoh must've done a revision, the latest model, MP7125 is exactly the same, except it has a 2mb buffer.

Taipan, i read the same writeup, any of those four would be a good choice, the only advice i can give is purchase the drive from a shop you have some faith in, if u have any problems, warranty seems to be only 12 months on all burners (that i've noticed).
Acid's got a good point, the sony is an excellent scsi drive, that was my second choice.

Oh yeah I was just going to ask,do any of you know someone that has a shintaro burner?I like the write up they got but everytime I think of the name it reminds me of a dodgy 1970's TV show.

Only you older guys will prolly know what I'm talking about. :)

Yeah, the Yamaha 16x is an awsome burner but the 12s are good too and if you want less risk of your cd burns f***ing up, you will get scsi.buffs the whole thing before it burns.
