i believe the amd requires a 300w to be stable.
And the macase is an excellent 300w case, computer alliance and concorde stock them, $150.

erm, having said that, i should also say try the 250w case first to see if it has any glitches.

yeah i got the case from computer alliance but i was going to buy a p3 now have changed my mind and are going for a AMD 1.2 but 90% of cases are 250w so it might work with a AMD

I don't see why you can't run any chip in a 250w box, just don't start sticking 4 hdds and 2cds in there with a s***load of fans

Then you'll have problems =)

I have an Athlon 700 with 2x HDD, CD-RW, and DVD all running off a 250W psu. No problems whatsoever in the 8 months I've had it.

You may want to get a 300W for a 1.2Ghz - especially if you're going to be running extra cooling.

You need at least 22 amps from the 5volt supply for it to be stable. There should be a sticker/label on the PS that tells you what it can supply. Computer Alliance sell MaCase cases. They have 300watt supplies but they cost about $150. I've put Tbird 800's in AOpen 250watt boxes and they work fine.

I need alot of power for my new computer. 12 fans plus all 5 1/4" drives full is gonna take some power...
Oh, and then there are the neons.

um i've got a 250w and run a intel 500, 4x hard disks, 3x fans, agp card, 3pci, 1 isa card, and a cd rom.
no probs at all
didnt think that it is a problem, cause it rarely will draw 250 watts anyway!!

Well, I am playing it safe. I'll have a tbird, 12 fans (two are on the PSU anyway), a burner, a dvd, a digital doc, a newq, a agp card, network card (lol, big power drain there...), soundcard, neons and a couple of HDDs.

thank for the advice to those who gave some
i might try take the case back to shop tomorrow and get a 300w one (the case is unused, took out of box just to look at it). if not i will get a p3 1 gig instead.

the AMD 1.2 users alot of power lot more then lower AMDs this is what worries me.
read on a site that the 1.2 uses same amount of power that a P4 does.
