Topic: PS2 outselling Xbox

Data from the first full week of console sales since the Xbox launch is now available with the PS2 significantly outselling the Xbox.

"Data from analyst firm Inform shows PS2 sales reached 6255 for the week March 18-24, while Xbox sales were just 3065."

This does not take in to account the nine thousand odd Xbox's sold during the four days prior to the 18th of March. Figures for console sales will continue to be unreliable for a while, with the GameCube launch just seven weeks away (17th May).

Huh? DC was out then and as that article says it received a HUGE boost in sales as DCs were heavily discounted and many people snapped them up (myself included).

I think loads more people knew about the xbox than you think Antomathy. Microsoft pretty much spammed it everywhere.

That's really no surprise. The PS2 has been consistently outselling both the X-BOX and the Gamecube in America and Japan ever since they were released.

Hmm, I think people are actually missing the point of this whole Console Vs Console Wars......

For the time being MS is just happy that they have a "foot in the door" with the console market.

PS2 has had market share in the console market for as long as it has been out because it was the best alternative to a N64 or PS1. Not to mention the truck load of games it has and still has now.

It won't be for a number of years to see who really drops out (Sony, Nintendo and MS). This is a very hard and very long battle.

I trust you have used one to make that decision??

I have a seXBox and have had since release day, I have 10 games, the HDTV pack and the DVD remote. I am over the moon with the purchase of my first console, I looked at the PS2 and being that I work for sony I could get it cheap, but I found the DVD playback to be grainy and not colour saturated, the seXBox playback is chrystal clear with bright vibrant colours.

Gaming wise, honestly, there is little difference, PS2 and seXBox BOTH have good games. I like the seXBox controler better than the sony but that is MY opinion and that is based on having used both EXTENSIVELY.

im not speaking direct to the person that I quoted but it does seem that in general people are quick to judge the seXBox having had little or NO use of it. and playing it for an hour in a department store is NOT what I call giving a console a go, borrow one off a mate for a couple of days then comment, I have used BOTH consoles a lot and seXBox wins hands down for ME.

Funny how people are quick to judge a console that has been on the market for 2 weeks, give it 6 months and then do a comparison as the hardware is awseome and the release games were varied but mainly good. lets see what the future holds for both consoles. unless of course, the seXBox hate campaign is a classic sour grapes thing.

Depends if you could the fact that it was backwards compatible. =)

The PS2 does have gta3... that game is so cool. Although, I think that the XBOX has a much stronger software linup on release, even if halo was stolen from PC :(

I was never a big ps fan, consoles are only as good as the games that are on them.

The advantage of the xbox is that is has superior hardware to the ps2, its only a matter of time before they nab the right developers and get the good games rolling out.

I seem to recall this argument being used to back the N64 on its release :)

That said, I guess Microsoft isnt stuck with the f***en fluffy bunny image ;)

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. Back to school for you.

Newsflash: for those who didn't know, Sony were absolutely s***ting themselves for the first year or so of PS2 be cause they only really started selling the arse out of the machine once they dropped the price.

The guy who said MS wanted merely to get their foot in the door is correct. Which they have done, and in a slow part of the retail season.

Gamecube are interestingly having a sales target of 50K in month one, which is a nice figure for Australia (PS2 managed it, but then they did launch the console in peak pre-christmas buying season). One story I read had MS targetting 50K too for the first month but that was always going to be an ask.

Even despite the s*** timing, because the GC is so much cheaper than the competition, they might just get close.

And Sony aren't dumb - MGS2, both by itself and packaged with the console + a new budget range of games and an existing library of very strong recent releases means that they really are able to apply short term heat to the Xbox. Shame that they probably could have had the online adapter (due, oh, last year?) out over here now if they had have gotten their finger out.
