Last week we let you know a definitive version of the critically acclaimed RPG, Disco Elysium, Disco Elysium - The Final Cut, was heading to our shores with a few new platforms on its "playable on" manifest. Unfortunately, the classification powers that be here in Australia have put the breaks on that release, refusing the game classification. This is obviously a frustrating outcome for developer ZA/UM. The official refusal reads as follows from the Classification Board: Games 1(a): The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."We're no stranger to this on our shores, but given we fought so hard for an R18+ rating, and nothing has been raised content-wise over the initial release from 2019, this RC is obviously another step backwards. Hopefully it will require just a few changes to make it across the line. We'll have more as it becomes available. |
