They're here...

link

I was going to hold off on a video card purchase but now that Flight Sim has proven to be such a resource hog I might have to grab one. Should still be able to get a good price for my current card so it won't sting so hard. Also finally looking to get proper stuck in to VR gaming with the Reverb G2.

edit: I see an official thread in the Latest News section but not here in general. If that's unintentional feel free to delete this once it's moved over.

I would comment on the official thread but the show button isnt working for me (probably works internet).

I'm just glad they didn't give another series price hike like the 2000s.

Release/founder pricing
1070 $449
1080 $599
1080ti $699
Titan $1200

2070 $499
2080 $799
2080ti $1199
Titan $2499

3070 $499
3080 $699
3090 $1499

3070 is probably going to be really nice one once we get all the 3rd party versions.

I'm hoping a 3080 ti release is inevitable and holding out for that. The 3090 is tempting but oh so much super expensive VRAM I'll never use. The 3080 ti should be a much more sensible 16GB option.

Yeh I'm hoping for a quick 3080ti release, otherwise might need to get the 3090 because my 2080ti is obviously completely s***house now, looks like one of the kids will be minecraft/roblox on it, hope they don't get too mad.

I had been considering buying an RTX card so I can try a few RTX-enabled games (eg, Tomb Raider), so this comes at a perfect time. I suspect I'll be jumping on the 3070 bandwagon.

nah 2080ti owners are super happy with their purchase right now, I'd grab one of those before retailers run out of stock.

I'm still running a 1070 and getting over 100FPS in PUBG. Might be tempted at some point I guess.

I'm in the market for a new GPU soon I think. Currently running an RX580, which does the job in games like PUBG, etc. But dying under the load of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. What should a 3070 go for once they're out? I'm guessing around $1K AUD?

Around $800+. Performance is said to be on par with a 2080ti which retail for around $1600.

I'm thinking of selling my 2080ti for scrap :(

Check what's being stressed in Flight Sim. It's a very CPU dependent game. Often my GPU is humming along at 50-60% usage while my CPU is being thrashed. Having said that, a 3070 will be an excellent upgrade from an RX580.

Anyone with an RTX card who has played Control (or any other RTX game?) with RTX on and off confirm how much better it actually looks? Currently have a 1080ti and dont need to upgrade but if playing Cyberpunk with RTX will be that much better then I might consider it.

Definitely the GPU. If I fly around Uluru, I'll get about 40FPS. If I fly in New York, obviously more dense 25-32FPS. The game is perfectly playable even at those resolutions. Doesn't require the same levels as say an FPS. But there are some scenarios such as heavy clouds that just grind my machine to a halt. The CPU doesn't really ever seem to get bothered, but everything on the GPU maxes out. The only thing that has maybe caused the CPU some stress has maybe been clouds, most mostly the GPU :)

Hey Murf... Control is an example of RTX On presenting a next-gen looking version of the game... ray-tracing there is a visual game changer, because the environments are claustrophobic the reflections and improved lighting add so much depth that it looks and feels like a different game. Based on the footage shown for Cyberpunk we should expect a similar scenario. No doubt that game will look great without RTX (just like Control does), but that's shaping up to be another "next-gen" style upgrade

Cheers Kosta, that certainly sounds like a big improvement. Hmm...

Wondering if a fair price on a 20* series card is the go... Because the new cards will be in limited numbers and in high demand. Retailers are gonna have a field day charging out the wazoo knowing people will pay the money.

if you're looking to game at 1440p then a 20 series price drop is definitely something to consider... 4K is where all the extra stuff comes into play

Zen 3 announcement on October 8th. Looking forward to that just as much as Nvidia's new GPU offerings. MSFS2020 needs a big beefy CPU which mine ain't.

Its really interesting watching the bottlenecks appear. For years now CPU hasn't really mattered that much for gaming.

I love seeing actual progress and advancement, but the cynic in me believes its all being driven by the new console generation :( Would FS2020 be what it is if it couldn't be used to spearhead the Series X?

I love new console generations just for that reason. They always bring about a technological bump in visuals among other advancements. Exclusives can be a bit of a bummer but all XBOX games are on the PC now and even some of the platinum PS exclusives like HZD have made it onto PC (my HZD runs great, others not so lucky).

Games stressing the CPU, making use of large amounts of RAM and loading quicker are all areas I think PC games have been deficient in because consoles sucked with their netbook class CPUs, piddly amounts of RAM and reliance on mechanical drives and in some cases reading off a f***ing disc. I'm looking for a lot more ambient detail in games this coming generation as a result of those advancements. AI being utilised in game development will also play a part in that I reckon.

Yeh I know ... I just remember when these things were driven by PC technology rather than console.

RIP GLIDE

edit: Also glossing over the whole 80s/90s era where consoles pushed PC gfx improvements, gtfo my lawn ffs

Anyone keen on a 3090 - the EVGA 3090 FTW3s are in stock at Scorptec. Mine is apparently scanned and ready for dispatch and they're showing as in stock still on the website
