We are now at Day Six of our Top 10 Best Games of 2019 list, which means, we're halfway there. Yay for us (and you)! So far, our list has been all over the shop, in the best possible way. So what brings us here to pick five on Day Six? Truly, an off-world experience through multi-eyed terrestrials looking to find out as much about their Solar System as they are about the universe and, naturally, themselves. Reflecting real-world posits, ventures, questions and longform quests, Mobius Digital's Outer Wilds does *something* special. Be it in passing with another kin, or simply launching "off this old rock for new adventure", the game captured the imagination in so many ways, it's hard to break down. Moreover, it does this in an accessible succinct way that feels approachable, yet wrought with learning. A truly gravitational experience for the wannabe spacefarer in all of us. Here's a slice of what we had to say: Having an entire solar system to explore without quest markers or a clearly defined mission or objective may sound daunting or aimless, but the very nature of the setup is genius in how it scales the immense to a more manageable size that never feels overwhelming. Having the world or system reset every 22 minutes like an episode of Seinfeld version of Groundhog Day is a brilliant move because it fosters and encourages focusing on single tasks...Click here for Day Six, Entry Five on our Top 10 Best of 2019 countdown list. |
