Tormund Giantsbane, slayer of giants and sucker of giant's titties. That was a meme worthy scene.

We got to see side boob of Maise Williams, today was a very good day.

It was a very fluffy episode, it was nice though. Danni has to suck it up that she may not be sitting on the Iron Throne.

Was pretty good but I expected more deaths of the other main characters, like Worm and maybe Jamie or Brienne. It didn't quite feel like GoT with out more deaths but it was still good.

Old Beric and Sir Friendzone did well.

It will be interesting to see how Danni and Jon work out who will be the big cheese in the next few eps. Kick old Cersi out on her arse with her bogan looking boyfriend.

Yeah, Uhh, I’m satisfied with some of the twists and turns from that episode. Some remarkable pacing and tone maintained throughout.

I have one problem... the conclusion of an 8 year plot line (it felt more like it was dismissed than concluded...)

It kinda lacked something at the crescendo, all I could think of was a Mike Tyson meme, “Now kithth”.

Thinking about Jorah the Explorers departure... many great characters have come and gone, very few got the departure they would want. I’d love to know how heavily GRRM was involved in choosing that set of circumstances.

Aryas ‘hidden talents’ are also gonna be the worst kept secret after this :P

Really enjoyed the end sequence, nicely shot and paced. But f*** me worst tactics ever. Dig a bigger ditch you idiots. Actually use your catapults and dont stop firing. Why would you stop firing f*** me. We know fire destroys the undead, why not have a continual volley of arrows being launched?

Sam surviving was silly as hell.

They missed out on a great opportunity with Sansa facing off her mother/aunty or whatever stark.

Essentially the only time we have seen the murdering dothraki horde in action... but they got their ass handed to them. Really sad to see what was at one point the greatest unstoppable army in GOT universe get smothered.

We saw them last season mowing down the Lannister army which were transporting the wagons of gold but yeah that was about the only time.

Seeing them ride off to instant death was tactically horrible but I didn't really mind because I can understand why they did it for the visual perspective, it was superb seeing the sense of hope flash away in a blink of the eye

What first threw me was seeing Ghost on the front line charging like a f***ing calvary horse.. wtf was that? I'd rather have not seen him at all. If your gonna show him put him literally anywhere else.. with Theon defending Bran, or down in the crypts... anywhere else..

And then don't show a bunch of main characters in situations against all odds and seemingly about to die and then have NONE of them die.. that was just stupid. And now when they inevitably do die in a future episode, it wont have the same impact because they should have died in this battle and instead will die doing some dumb heroic s***.

Watching this episode was like eating your favorite ice cream from the tub, at the time it's so satisfying but after your finished and some time passes you start to feel the disappointment creep in. All the props to the director for what he was able to do with the script he was given. It was a visual feast that had me on the edge of my seat, just a shame for some of the writing decisions and character plot armour.

it was a great episode, i was on the edge the whole time as i know they love killing characters so i was always thinking is this last time we see this character? but then like everyone said no one dies.

Spoiler:
At the end i actually though arya was bran using her many faces now that would have been cool ending too.

Yeah it was a great visual effect but I was wtfing all the way through the fight scenes.

I'd go the complete opposite analogy. It's like eating something that you are only slightly enjoying but right at the end you find a nugget of deliciousness. Of course that's the end sequence, which imo was really really good. Their comrades turning, Jon fighting a hopeless battle against a half faced dead dragon, Theon defending Bran and that music which suddenly stops for Bran to speak "You were a good man" and then BAM.

I really really hope that Bran sheds some light (heh) on the white walkers. Because for this to be the end of them is really lame.

They actually filmed her and Tyrion with some (very small) action in the Crypt, but it didn't make the final cut;

disappointed there was no big 1v1 between JS and NK. I reckon they could have had an epic 1v1 but NK towards the end is winning and is about to kill JS, then Arya could have jumped in to save the day and killed the NK in the same way she did on the show.

I think a classic 1v1 duel between Jon and the NK would have been a bit trite, the NK had no reason to accept one and literally everything to lose as the locus of the Walkers. This point was made pretty clear when the NK chose to raise the fallen instead of going mano a mano with Jon.

A lot of people are complaining about the sudden end to the undead's plot line without deeper explanation. I think that this is a fair criticism but also agree that the lore belongs in the books.

Even with Lore belonging to books, the show did make a very big things about the World of Men and Magic colliding and something having to be done and how such events have huge consequences..

Then they end such a collision .. so ... uneventfully. There are no hints or anything to the huge consequences of Man winning over Magic, or a massive and sudden shift of power to the Lord Of Light who in the show (and in the books) has been shown to be of questionable morality (as far as morality can be assigned to a God).

I do hope there will be at least hints and suggestions of this deeply impacting event springing up next episode and scattered throughout the last episodes.

Think of it like Hodor. There was all this mystery around his name and what happened, hints of something greater or maybe he simply was mentally limited. Then it culminated into what I felt to be the best scene in the entire series, and the way it gave perspective to all of Hodor's story from beginning to end, how tortuous it was. The whole, Pre-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, they pretty much nailed what it must be like to be traumatised by something that hasn't happened yet (but kind of has, but not really. f*** you Bran, f*** you!)

That's the sort of completeness I was expecting for the clash of White Walkers and Man .. instead we got a .. oh he was just trying to kill Bran but got killed first, the end.

> Then they end such a collision .. so ... uneventfully.

The North has been completely rekt. The Dothraki annihilated and the Unsullied emptied. The Glovers are probably the most powerful Northern family stranding and House Moromont is completely eliminated from the board. Winterfell has been decimated (again) and Jorah's storyline, Melisander's, Beric's as well as Theon's ended.

It was a rough night for supporting characters. One assumes that main characters are up for next course in the last eps. Yumm.

Oh, for sure there were character deaths. The Dothraki might as well be a single character (like the millenium falcon is a character). On a side note, I thought it was a total strategic WTF moment when they sent the Dothraki, what are essentially Cavalry, out to meet the massive advancing undead hoard. It would have been known it was absolutely certain they would get decimated without any kind of supporting units, etc.
Extremely effective units on horse back that are best used with hit and run techniques ... used as a vanguard unit by a non-advancing army that is absolutely taking an embedded defensive position.

Keep in mind, that Tyrion (who presumably conceived the strategy) and the rest of the council had zero knowledge Melisandre would randomly appear and ignite the Dothraki weapons, so .. it was idiocy to send the Dothraki in like that.

They would have been far, far, far more effective if they were position to do hit and runs on the flanks of the advancing army, mopping up what the dragons don't burn.

Instead, they were pretty much just gifted to the Night King. Hey, NK, we noticed your hoard army was lacking in mounted units, we don't want to make this an unfair fight, so here, have our cavalry. We shall just send them to meet your MASSIVE hoard army and watch from a distance at their most surely inevitable decimation, maybe they'll kill a few of your hoard, sorry about that if they do.

And Danny was all 'hey wtf.. they are dying' and gets mad and fly's off on her Dragon.. like .. what did she expect?

I don't think the producers thought that one through very well.

yes I hated that.

complete dogs*** use of cavalry.

I also hated how long it took for the dragons to show up. they could have been burning s*** the whole time and used it as a way to show just how massive the undead horde was but instead they do a few passes here and there and disappear for ages at a time.

and the tiny trench. oof.

Hah the whole dothraki charge was written in purely to get the cool shot of the lights going out (which tbf was a cool shot).

Basically the entire episode was written around cool shots not whether anything anyone did made any sense whatsoever in the context of the asoiaf universe, character motivation, basic military strategy or even common fkn sense.

Cool shots but wasted opportunity to make something more than big budget fantasy fight porn.

I also liked how they had their trebuchets fire once or twice and then kind of forgot about them. if they had them maybe behind the firery death wall so they could continue to fire when the Undead army was temporarily held at bay? That might have been a good idea.

Also, no burning Oil/swinging scythes/etc from the castle walls (they had them on the Wall-wall)? It looked like they had huge drop logs with dragon glass on them hanging from the walls, that were never dropped/used.

pretty sure that was what the dothraki woudl have wanted, to be in front charging. tis how they roll.

but yer, i woudl have had the dragons out way in front burninating the undead from miles away to reduce the numbers.

maybe dragons have limited burninating powers.

The latest episode was interesting. Though it seems weird that A small group of unsullied and danny would just rock up to kingslanding demand surrender. Cersi could have starting firing those big crossbows and the archers, it would have been over right then and there. It seems like s*** is falling apart for Danny and it almost seems like she is losing her cool and will be happy burning people like the old mad king lol.

Poor Tormund. The big woman doesn't want him. She got her comeuppance now that Jamie has left her, she knows his brain is hardwired on Cersi but still tried anyway.

Poor Dragon, He had so much burning left to do. Taken too soon.

i'm enjoying it but it feels like this last season is losing some of what made GoT great... the fact that it didn't matter if you were a main character or not.. if the odds are against you, then likely you'll die.

the dothraki charge in & it looks like they wiped.. yet.. at the meeting in ep4.. 50% survived. Jorah was at the head of the charge yet he didn't even get unhorsed !@#! All those other main characters at the FRONT LINE when a wave of undead wash over them & only Ed dies?

terrible 'strategy' from the stark/targarien team. one piddly little fire trench that gets blocked by about 5 dead bodies :/ no burning oil from the walls?... hrmm.. maybe cercei should win! her team has a better handle on keep warfare :p

i do like how instead of 'yaayyy! happy times! we won!' the survivors immediately start breaking into factions.. very GoT. :D

A lot of people talking s*** about sansa spilling the beans but you know what, Sansa is a great character. She's no longer the little girl but a master tactician who beat Little Finger at his own game. That song and dance in front of the midget where she was hesitant, heh, all part of her plan. She dislikes Dani, and whats better than Dani than another dragon riding Stark/Targ hybrid? Nothing.

By little it slip to Tyrion, she knew he would talk it over with Varys and others, which results in factions. Guess what happened?

I can't believe Sansa's character's story arc is so badly done in the shown. I bet in the books it's going to be awesome.

In some other Game of Thrones news, you can sit your arse on a GoT themed racing gaming chair.

I like the look for the black Targarian chair but I also like the Stark Wolf sigil. Too bad those would not be comfortable for my fat arse. $429 USD for the titan (large) version, probably does not include shipping.

I'm gonna try to be deliberately vague to anyone except those who have watched 8x05 yet, but stop reading if not:

- The Cersei looking out thing - I kinda thought she was waiting to spring a trap that involved wildfire.
- That camera shot of Arya at the end was incredible - perfectly framed with what was going on around.
- Qyburn. ROFL.

I held off reading the books over the years as I felt book readers were overly critical/nit-picky and that reading them would ruin my enjoyment of the show....

WELL after these last three episodes and knowing how it ends (looked up the spoilers that have been around for months, turns out they were correct L0L) I'll definitely be reading the books now when/if GRRM finally releases the last 2.

Abit of speculation he's had a falling out with d&d and out of spite hasn't released the remaining books, that he has one or both of them on ice ready to go for when the show ends..

There's good discussion on reddit in r/freefolk about the issue actually stemming from many seasons ago. The decision to kill or delete characters really f***ed the ending up.You can see the overall picture but it's missing a few pieces.

The best one I read was that fake aegon/golden company was a key part of the overall story. Without him, her demise into murderess makes no sense.

I really enjoyed the finale. They definitely botched this last season, though. When you have something like the final season of GoT which has the potential to be one of the all-time great seasons of TV and produce something that is below average that can only be classified as a f*** up.

It would have been nice to see the characters acting smart after the Battle of Winterfell. Anticipate the ambush at Dragonstone, don't leave Jaime Lannister back in f***ing Winterfell (seriously why did they leave him there???) etc.

Now I need me some Mr Robot and Rick and Morty S4, STAT.

Unfortunately. 7 and 8 have been rushed and not thought out as well as it should have been. It could have ended this way regardless but getting to the end point is the problem. Is DnD to blame? or HBO? Was money an issue? Did both DnD and HBO just want to end it because it's costs too much and is more difficult to do?

There is a spin off in the works but I am not too interested in Children of the Forrest.

HBO is getting a taste of how fandom is a double edged sword.

the current rumour on the interwebs is that HBO wanted 10 episodes for season 7 and 8 and they also wanted a season 9 but the show runners refused because they wanted to move onto something else. HBO contemplated firing them but were too afraid of the backlash they may receive if they did. in hindsight, firing them may have been the better decision.

yeah, they chose the amount of episodes they wanted to do and crammed the story into that, rather than writing it well and then working out how many episodes would do it justice.

I was really disappointed in season 8, and the finale was just meh. They focused on nothing but spectacle this season and so many of the character developments were rushed and forced and it all felt poorly done.

D&D were given George's 'broad strokes' plot and 2 full seasons by HBO to wrap it up (8 and 9).

They have a hardon for moving onto ruining Star Wars though so this is what we got. Danaerys turning into the Mad Queen is FINE as a plot arc and very Game of Thronesy. Lots of the events that happened make sense if you tell the f***ing story properly. For example Varys being the first person to recognise the Mad Queen and eventually being given up by Tyrion makes sense but the handling of it was absurd.

The pacing and snipping of arcs made the whole thing into a f***ing s***hole that doesn't resemble the source material. Dany's descent into madness should have been the theme of a series, not a wtfbbq moment. FFS this show was straight up murdered by those guys.

The election sequence was straight up dumb. I can see the 3ER being the best choice objectively but the how-we-get-there was f***ing hamfisted as f***. Maybe GRR wanted the North to gain independence but there is just no way that 'yeh cool but nah' from Sansa could possibly fly. How the f*** did Tyrion go from shut-the-f***-up prisoner to Kingmaker in 30s? Why didn't Grey Worm just end him? Arrgh

The r/freefolk memes have been amazing tho, and the pew pew boom boom eye candy solid.

Perhaps we can make another petition where we send DnD and JJ Abrams to North Korea as a peace offering where they can make s***ty North Korean propaganda and TV shows for Kim to enjoy.

In other news I have been watching Babylon 5 and I have nearly finished season 2 of it. It's not bad. Enjoying it as much if not more than season 8 lol. Sure, the effects are not great but for 1993-1994 its alright.

Edit: also apparently old George isn't sitting around with his thumb up his arse.

"And me? I'm still here, and I'm still busy. As a producer, I've got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the HIstory Channel. I'm involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my stories and books, some on material created by others. There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I've consulted on a video game out of Japan. And then there's Meow Wolf...

He maybe busy as hell, but the more of that s*** he does, the less writing he does which is frustrating.

Between winds of winter, doors of stone, the thorn of emberlain, and peace talks, I feel like I am just constantly waiting on these blokes, and they are only the ones that come to mind right now, i'm sure there are more

So just become a fan of Brandon Sanderson. He writes so fast that by the time you finish reading one book, a new one is out!

To be fair, he has written other books in the same world since A Dance with Dragons came out.

But... it will be 8 years this July since Dance with Dragons came out.

Sanderson is insane... he even has a meter on his website tracking the progress of different books:

After reading some good reactions I read one of his sort-of-maybe-YA books, Skyward and enjoyed it immensely for what it was, so it's not just his adult books that I enjoy. Mind you, Sanderson is a very different sort of adult writer to GRRM as he himself admitted when he talked about how he couldn't see himself every finishing off the series if George died like he did for Robert Jordan with The Wheel of Time series. He's a mormon and there's far too much sex etc, in ASOIAF. The tone of the series is also too different to his own.

would be cool if they do a reboot of series 8 sometime in the future but with a proper GOT story line. There is currently a petition but it won't fly.
