Yeah, yeah, it sounds like a stretch but Ubisoft is known for teasing upcoming projects. At any rate, as reported by Eurogamer, there's a potential Easter Egg hidden within The Division 2 pointing to the next Assassin's Creed being of Nordic/Viking theme.

And we'd have zero issue with that. In particular is the pointing out of a number of Viking-themed posters in the Potomac Event Center, which also show the Viking figure holding what appears to be one of Assassin's Creed's central plot points -- the Apple of Eden.

Troublingly would be the series' parkour component, if it were set in Scandinavia, at a time when Vikings were prominent, however, given the series' new penchant to happily lay on thick water travel given the game's engine handles it so well, we could see some serious marauding on a much larger scale than that of the Greek Isles. Eurogamer serves up some decent evidence of why this could be the next instalment, but I'd still err on the side of caution. Fans have been screaming out for something of ancient Japanese or Chinese origin for years, while the Mongols would also be a decent fit. But everything is currently speculative. So grains of salt are encouraged.

Where would you like to play the next instalment of the series, if it maintained its current open-world action-RPG model?

I have a feeling the Japanese set Assassin's Creed is in their back pocket for when the series takes a serious downturn in popularity and needs a big comeback - even bigger than Origins raising the bar in terms of scope and using an uncommon setting after Unity and Syndicate.
