Topic: Work desktop recommendation - AKA build me a cheapbox

Hi everyone,

My HP all in one low profile piece of s*** finally died, CPU seems to be shorting and getting a replacement doesn't seem possible because of the weird mobo. It was a good piece of s*** that did the job.

I'm after a replacement solely for work.

I have: Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse/SDD.
I need: Mobo/CPU/PSU/RAM/Case

Any recommendations?

I found this list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Bfbwr6 Seems decent but can we make it cheaper/better?

Damn that's idiotic of me. Yes this is office stuff, most of the time it's Word, Excel and some torrents.

My dad always gets PCs and laptops from these guys for his work.

No sense in buying a $1000 newie for fat carol in training who does nothing but have morning tea and be fat anyway.

if you're in Brisbane you'll have to pay shipping from that place, they're in Melbourne

there's a decent ex-gov/refurb skelly shop over near Tarra that has some alright stuff, here's the Google Store link, I dunno if it will link/render if you're not logged into a Googs account though

link to Computer Clearance Centre, Tarragindi

ever bought printers from there? they say they have a huge range but only one is listed. just wondering if they typically have more. (my dad's old faithful HP finally died and he can't stand spending money on good stuff so keeps buying cheap s*** - he ended up buying some cheap POS from Officeworks which doesn't print the way he needs so hoping he can find an old HP laserjet to replace it)

Hey Trog, I have a couple of HP LaserJet 5L and 6Ls kicking around, and a 2200D. They need to go - if they're the kind of 'old' models you're looking for or interested in.

Ordered I think the exact same model as my current cheapbox. Waiting on delivery, they took a while to process my order actually. Hopefully I can combine the two machines and form an actual computer. haha

Anyone how to retreive a windows 10 license of a working hdd? Can I just plug the old hdd into the new machine and hope for the best?

oh nice! Let me check with Dad and see. The one that just broke seems to be an 1100 from a quick look so I guess it's an older model but the 2200D looks quite a bit bigger from photos - he's heavily constrained by space. I'll shoot you a PM - thanks dude!
