Topic: Nvidia TV - GPU Maker Announces New Line of Big Screen Displ...

Which Nvidia are calling Big Format Gaming Displays or BFGDs. You might know them as large screen TVs, but with the added bonus of full 120Hz HDR displays and G-SYNC compatibility. And yes, they will be 4K with full-array direct backlighting, 1,000-nit peak luminance for decent HDR performance, and DCI-P3 color gamut.

Throw in some Andoid-based Nvidia SHIELD tech, a large 65" display and models currently expected from the likes of Acer, ASUS and HP, and colour us - interested. Keenly interested.

“PC gamers expect high performance and instant response times, but, until now, they’ve been largely limited to traditional desktop displays,” said Matt Wuebbling, head of GeForce marketing at NVIDIA. “BFGDs change that. With NVIDIA’s latest technology built into these new displays, PC gamers can now experience their favorite titles in all the low-latency glory they deserve.”

Although we don't have word on the specific latency, compared to competitive UHD TVs on the market expect these to be more suited for gaming. Especially if they're G-Sync compatible. With the rise of 4K UHD displays in the past year, and a wide range of displays currently on the market - some of which not exactly ideal for gaming - this is great news.

Okay, we're more than interested. We're excited. Expect more news as it drops, with the first batch of BFGDs expected to launch sometime mid-2018.

I imagine that these TVs will cost at least, A functioning kidney. 4K LED TVs are expensive enough but these sounds cool though. When I win Lotto things will be different.

These sound like they would be set at some ungodly price.

Are they actually TVs though? Sounds like tv sized computer monitors, which doesn't necessarily make it good for watching movies and such. There's a lot of things that are important for a good gaming monitor that aren't important for a tv and vice versa, considering how many children they'll cost, I'd want to be sure it's not just going to be a good gaming monitor but is gonna be a good high end 4k tv too.

Big Format you say? Big Format?

Yeah, that's totally the acronym that's going to take off for these.

Maybe its just cos I'm not the market for this, but I don't really get it, like they're too huge to be used as actual monitors on a desk, but lack some of the capabilities I would want in a high end TV. I guess it would be good if you had a dedicated gaming setup in a media room or something, and were using it just for gaming, but that seems like a super niche market especially considering the cost

Yeah not too sure either. Having it in the lounge room and using a mouse and keyboard while on the couch is not something i'd ever see myself doing. Maybe having it mounted on the wall above your desk? But then you'd have to pull your desk out from the wall to achieve the optimal viewing distance, it'd be far to close otherwise unless you've got a super wide desk.
