From the lay of the posts here, the majority of uni people who frequent the QGL forums seem to all be doing some kind of IT course. Is there anyone here going to uni who isn't?

Make life interesting and do something that isn't completely f***ing boring like IT, specially when you are only doin it so you are "guaranteed a job"...

I'm doing Education (Primary teaching), so i suppose i'm almost "guaranteed a job", but it'll prolly be out west somewhere in a one teacher school, oh well.

That is cool man. That would be a real rewarding job and you are only guaranteed a a job cos most ppl can't handle that line of work. It will be a good challenge - good luck d00d. :)

I think its funny though them trying to plan out a 3 year course in an area that is a) radically growing and b) mostly obsolete in 6 months anyway

Trog; that would be because all IT subjects at UQ are GHEYSECHS (ignoring the full practical one run by the electrical engineer).

That, and IT at UQ is 4 years now old man >:)

All you guys who are going to Uni to get practical experience in the current technologies are going for the WRONG REASONS!!!! Uni has never been about that, take Law, you need a Law degree and then you need another course after that to actually be able to practice as a barrister. Medicine, you aren't a real doctor until your residency out in the field is finished etc etc, the list goes on.

Uni is supposed to be about teaching you how to think for yourself so that you can keep up to speed and relevant in your field. If a Uni course was supposed to keep you up with the "next big thing" in IT, then you would never graduate!

Oh, and another thing, Electrical Engineering sucks the big one, so long as we are talking about Electrical, not Electronic (which is mildly interesting). As a 2 year veteran of E Eng/IT double degrees, I can say that IT is a far better choice.

Anarot, I think you'll find that most of us are in IT because we have been good at it from an early age, i've been around (and programming ;) since BASIC on the Apple 2e, so it was a logical choice. The fact that it's the big thing at the moment (and will be for a while from what I can see) is neither here nor there. We are mostly in it because we love it. If you are in it for the money, I pity you, it's a s*** profession in that case.

i started IT at griffith but changed to multimedia last year and am now going to finish my multimedia degree then go into network archeticture.

i hope that works out for you, so long as you don't have to spell it

My experience with electrical engineering and maths at QUT is that, the engineering side are a bunch of unorganised retards, science would have to be the most organised out of all the faculties. I've only done one IT subject, so I can't really comment on them, but they seem better than engineering.

But it is nearly all theory, which is kind of gay.

Oh and I didn't read the whole thread, and if this has nothing to do with it, you can suck my balls.

I did Comp.Science at JCU Townsvillew , now i am doing Theatre(tech), sound and lighting stuff...Then apparently my thesis will be on "computerized lighting sytems in use in theatre" So i guess that IT degree will be of some use :-)
