So ive been happy with my Logitech G9 for a long time now. Probably going on 5 years since i got it n just grabbed some replacement slippery feet things for a few bucks from china. http://images.tweaktown.com/content/1/1/1194_1.jpg A while ago there was a mouse thread (not mine) where somebody (cant remember who) recommended the cool master spawn (right handed mouse): http://www.topreviewshop.com/graphics/cm_storm_spawn_mouse.jpg I thought it looked good and kept it in mind for the future in case i needed a mouse replacement. Well last night my brother in law decided he wanted to get his very first mouse for his kick ass alienware gaming laptop. He has only ever been a console gamer xbox / ps3 but has played a good amount of shooters at my place on my setup and liked my mouse. I googled the cooler master spawn and found this image which further supported the aus gamers recommendation. It was also good to see the G9 also sitting pretty. The cyborg R.A.T didnt rate well which agrees with my limited experience using the heavy ass metal monster. The pic came from some whirlpool thread IIRC: http://piclair.com/data/d5t71.jpg Checked umart, no cooler master spawn but found what appears to be a similar (maybe newer?) version, Recon (right or left handed mouse): http://54.252.131.176/dbs/images/products/22263.jpg Reviews online looked good and at $55 online it was much cheaper than the online sellers stocking the Spawn. He signed up and committed to buying and picked it up this afternoon. Initial reports are he is very happy with the mouse. So a big thanks to whoever recommended the Spawn originally. TL;DR - My console gamer friend is new to PC gaming and likes his brand new Cooler Master Recon mouse. Thanks to the aus gamer who recommended it. It also got me thinking, any kick ass new mice on the market? |

When i got my steelseries 6g v2 keyboard (generica mechanical) i also got myself a new mouse. I couldn't find anything to replace my 510 with so i got myself a gigabyte aivia http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRrOVmxjN2vjWUvCwqu83KtDpF9YxymfwczI1cFGVF0pLuoku-UuQ I don't really recommend it. Honestly, all my mice have died from cable issues and i figured surely by now they'd have fixed wireless mice. They have. The 'receiver' is also a battery charger, the mouse comes with two batteries. One always charging, one in the mouse, battery life is about a week at my current usage. The mouse can also become corded by plugging a usb mini into the front of it. The shape of it is similar enough to a mx510 and the scroll and buttons feel good. These are all good things. Except the DPI buttons are on the top of the mouse between your fingers. And you WILL bump them. For months. Until your grip changes. That's the only reason my mouse is annoying. I've gotten used to it now so i'm happy but for nearly 3 months id just bump it in the middle of starcraft and my curser would fly around the screen in an inch of hand movement. Anyway, just so you know, don't get it. The steelseries keyboard however, do get. It's kind of nice really. |

I don't know why the R.A.T series mice are in the stupid section of that image. I have a 5600dpi rat 5 and I love it. I have used a bunch of those other mice from that and prefer the rat 5. It might look wack but it get the job done in FPS games better than any other mouse I have ever used plus the software that it comes with is excellent as well.

Currently have a Corsair M60, happy with it. I dream that one day, MS will make an intellimouse 3.0 with modern dpi, as that mouse just suits me perfectly (still have one, use it on my work PC hasn't missed a beat for 10 years). |

I was about to say that the person who made that Mouse-tier image knows their s***, except they put the G400 and G5 three tiers apart, despite being pretty much the same mouse for all intents and purposes (or "intensive purposes" if you're one of those people). Every time I try a mega-buttoned fancy / wireless mouse, I always regret it. Stuff the weird angles you have to press the buttons, the slow resume time of wireless laptop mice, or the constant battery rotation of desktop wireless mice. Simple low-button-count, corded G5/400 style mice for life. I should probably stock up on them ... |

Because a game which would stress test a mouse is something that has 300apm and every single one of those actions must come from the mouse? Link me a pro gamer who does use one. i could never ever use a cordless mouse. Oh ok. My phobia is big snakes, but i guess you can have a phobia of the absence of something i guess. |

I don't understand this? Explain please? APM stands for "actions per minute". So a suitable stress test would be 300 mouse clicks per minute, for example: in a gosu game of StarCraft. |

Wired mouse FTW. As long as the cord doesnt catch. The G9 cord is awesome. I found wireless mice kinda had some issues when living in college or apartment type settings but that was a few years ago. I always lol when some1 pauses in DOTA2 to replace mouse batteries. Unpause ASAP to f*** their team up. Pub games FTW. 300apm wow. I think HoN used to have APM and 100+ (maybe ~150) was good IIRC in pub games. The noobs would be like 50. |

WC3 you could have up to 3 heroes with spells, plus an army of units to micro. DOTA is awesome because for me it was the most fun part of playing WC3.. was all about leveling your heroes. |

Happy G9 user! Although the mouse was pretty dodgy in the first year where the cable at the front was loose and the mouse would lose connection...somehow it fixed itself. and then 2 years down the track the forwards and backwards buttons stopped working, I've learnt to not rely on them anymore. It lasting so long has redeemed itself. And since its used only on a func pad the teflon pads are still going strong. |

MS 3.0 user for 5+ years now. Onto my 2nd one and have another 2 stored away when this one dies.
Apart from my recommendation of the V3, I'd take a look at the Zowie mice range. http://www.zowiegear.com/index.php?i=products They are seem like high quality mice with no gimmicks. |

I wonder what percentage of APM mouse clicks make up anyway? 20%? With camera location hotkeys they would barely side scroll some pros haha. http://i.imgur.com/Qn3w2yP.jpg This is from the WCS SC2 (EU) event yesterday. I am using some Tron Razer mouse at the moment got it really cheap off COTD.com so it does its job, not the most comfortable mouse though.
Starcraft 2 APM isn't just mouse action, keyboard dominates the APM in that game. |

I've had my Wireless MS mouse a few months and had to replace the battery once so far. There is a light on the mouse that blinks when it is due to be replaced and it gives you a few hours, so it hasn't been a problem.

Depends on what games you are playing, I don't play any RTS/MMO type games. Only play FPS games and I'm using the steelseries Kana. No complaints with it however some people may find the buttons on the side odd depending on how you hold the mouse.

I wonder what percentage of APM mouse clicks make up anyway? 20% Hi, Actions include selecting a unit/building, ordering it (attack, move, patrol, gather, repair, morph, build, warp, stop, hold position, cast spells, burrow, etc.), training a unit, etc. For example, selecting a hatchery, selecting the larvae (zerg hatcheries, lairs and hives have a command to select all larvae of the building), and training 3 hydralisks constitutes 3 actions. So moving the map isn't an action. Even with a hotkey. In fact to capture these it's counted under XAPM. Extended APM. There's documents on SC2Gears.com for that. Therefore –beyond actions included in APM– XAPM includes (assumed you looked elsewhere): Think of a protoss, his units largely are warped in which means clicking for each unit that gets warped in. Guess what total that is in a percentage of mouse vs keyboards. Often the keyboard actually makes up half of an action or maybe an action itself. Like a+click is an action move. Not two actions. p+click is patrol. w to select warpgates isn't an action but holding z and clicking 8 times for 8 zealots is 8 actions. Anyway, go live in your fantasy that 80% of starcraft can be completed without a mouse or in other words, 80% of starcraft can be played on a keyboard. Edit: Onto topic i love my razor diamondback no matter what anyone says, feels like the old microsoft ones but with better dpi and side buttons. So yeah i've had two razer mice one razer lachesis's problem under windows 7 64bit. Before a firmware update the mouse would jitter, jumping to the top of the screen. After a firmware update either of the two right hand buttons would cause the mouse to stop responding for about 10 seconds, and rarely the mouse would jump to the top of the screen. There's a lot of reviews of this mouse being exactly the same for users as well as complaints galore on the forums. The diamondback when it was released (literally imported it from america i was so excited by it) and before 3 months was out, Q3: RA3 had ruined the cable. I will never buy another razer product. Neither lasted 6 months. Also; i won't buy logitech products. Just a thing, they last ok, but they just always feel disposable. Like 4-5 years is plenty of time to say it was good value but be it speakers, headsets, keyboards, mice and webcams are always happy for about that length of time and then just one day f*** up. It's fine but i want to promote businesses that have an interest in their products. I'm not sure i'm doing it right yet though.. but the steelseries was a good start. Feels weighted like a brick. |

My apm is 420 bro. #blazeit. I like the g700 because it can be both cordless and corded, which is good for playing on the couch when using the tv. Plus you can control the dpi and set profiles for different games. I basically just play doto2 now a days so I never switch up my profiles anymore. I've had the batteries run out in dota games before and it takes like 2 seconds to plug the cord in and keep going. |

I use my mouse in my left hand and it's hard finding a decent mouse that does both left and right. Lucky Blizzard brought out the Diablo 3 mouse which is the exact thing I need. I loved the old intellimouse ones from Microsoft and this is exactly like it but with more buttons and it glows a spooky red color. I bought an extra two of them in case my first one dies on me. http://www.members.optushome.com.au/gpahl/diablo3mouse.jpg |

Yeah I'm over wired mouseys, next one will be wireless provided I can score a good one. G9 here for me, although it died about a week ago (after 3+ years) so I'm using a 20 buck logitech one which is suprisingly high on the dpi and not too different feeling to the G9, score. |

I don't rate the SteelSeries Diablo 3 mouse... I won one in the D3 comp a while back (thanks AG!) but the scroll wheel died on me in very short order. Maybe it was just bad luck, I dunno. The Razer Deathadder Black replacement has been going strong since though. |

i have a rat 9 and love it. i'm not a pro gamer so whatevs. A super amazing pro gamer mouse is like owning a super fast ferrari but you never learned to drive like a pro. It's potential is way above your own. You can buy a cheaper slower less performance oriented vehicle which is more in tune to your driving style and do much better with it than the ferrari. That's my take with mice too. If you use them for gaming as a non-pro you should get the one which you can pick up and use any day of the week and instantly feel comfortable. But when someone rates it as not a pro mouse, you shouldn't take personal offence. We all know an F1 will go faster around the track, when in the right qualified hands, but i'm faster in any normal rear wheel coupe than i would be in an F1. Also it's just a mouse. I get something fancy for my home computer because it's part of the experience, but at work i can play the same game on a microsoft explorer mouse at the same 120apm (gold league) than i do at home. |
