Really dig Within Temptation, but I wouldn't exactly categorize it as 'metal'. Symphonic rock, rock opera and symphonic gothic have been used on various sites to describe the genre.

I figure metal is anything that is a bit harder than typical rock, just a generalisation really. I didn't want to create a symphonic gothic thread as well you see!

The singer from orgy has such a strange voice but that's 1 of the things I like about them

Real Nine Inch Nails sound to this

I always try to add at least 1 japanese song in these things so I have filled my quota for the day

KMFDM isn't metal either it's Industrial.

Yeah I know it's industrial, same with NIN right? I wasn't going to make an industrial thread as well.

Trent Reznor of NIN doesn't like to be classified as industrial but that is what most people classify his music as.

is that because they don't do that f***ing god awful growl *thing* as per the video you posted?

because i thought it was based on the sound of the music rather than the lyrics

what would that be classed as then?

Soggy cookie would be classed as hard rock / alternative rock with an bit of a rap influence. I never really bothered listening to korn as I was listening to sepultura and fear factory at the time

Also damo knows metal

Metal Evolution is an awesome doco series.

Metal is one of those brilliant art forms that has endless styles and approaches. There is something for everyone.
