Was just talking to SSJ|Gohan on #ausgamers on IRC, and he was telling me about Bomberman tournaments that his clan runs online using the ZSNES emulator. The ZSNES emulator includes netplay options that allow you to play your favourite games online against others and make this sort of thing possible.
