Im thinking about upgrading my video card but im not really sure where to go for the first time in a while as there is not much recent infomation about upgrading from this card atm.
I want something that isnt going to destroy my wallet but will give me a noticeable gain. I like dx11 games and id like to play them in full detail without getting less than 50fps if possibe. I can do this with my 5970 in bf3 but I cant have it at full detail and must turn aa down and also most settings to high instead of ultra. From what I understand the best value for money upgrade is to get another 5970 and xfire but I get noticeable micro stuttering with it as it is and apparently its common with 5xxx cards. Im not a fanboy of either brand (nvidia or amd) I just want a good upgrade from this card, or should I hold out longer? I dont run eyefinity or plan to, I just game at 1920x1080 on the single screen. |

I just brought a 7950. First card was DOA (Not completely dead, temp sensor didn't work and only booted 50% of the time) so returned that and got a replacement and I am very happy so far. Haven't found anything it cant handle at top settings.

Yeah I have a 7950 because it was cheap, runs well, only reason I got it was because the 6950 I had before only had a gb memory and started to stutter a little with the million mods I run on Skyrim. |

Whats your CPU? I've got a 5850 and can play BF3 fine on ultra detail at 1920x1080. |

rdizz, yes i am very sure, I am running the gainward phantom with no OC (other than gainwards own tweeks) that card is a powerhouse, that said i would (if i was going to buy one tomorrow) go a 670 just because the size, and power usage on the 570's are large |

For those that came here from google that may be searching for an upgrade, after hours of searching i finally found a comparison chart.
http://tpucdn.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_680_SLI/images/perfrel_1920.gif so unless you are willing to SLI a 680 or go for a 690 there is not really much of an upgrade you can do with a single card atm. Unless you are having dramas with a 5970 I would say hold out unless you have the cash. Also remember that when the unreal engine 4 comes out next year you will need a card with a Kelper chip so until 2013 I think I might wait until then unless 680's really drop in price over the next few months to compete with whatever AMD bring out. |

I'll be stuck with my HD5870 for a while yet. Its still running everything I play well in 6048x1080 (3 monitors) $800 clams for a GTX590 is out there. The HD6990 with 4Gig on board is $200 less for close to the same performance. |

you know that chart is relative performance compared to an sli'd 680, a 570 is still good bang for buck, and roughly the power you had before |

For those that came here from google that may be searching for an upgrade, after hours of searching i finally found a comparison chart. Chart is outdated, is missing the 670 which is the winner in price performance in mid-high end gaming. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/05/14/geforce_680_670_vs_radeon_7970_7950_gaming_perf/2 |

Price wise: 570 (1.2gb) $290ish 670 (2gb) $450ish 680 (2gb) $600ish 7850 (2gb) $260ish 7950 (3gb) $440ish I'd pick the 670 over the 7950 but the 7850 over the 570 myself. |

depends on your budget
Keep in mind that frequently SLI (it is realy scan line interleaving anymore ?) and Crossfire are only useful once Nvidia/AMD produce a profile for the app you are using. |
