Topic: Australia - the only country dumb enough to bomb itself

We gave the English uranium... they made nuclear bombs and tested them in Australia's outback. This gave aborigines horrible abnormalities and killed thousands. The Australian government covered this up from it's people and the aborigines. The fallout still effects Adelaide and Brisbane to this day.

My grandfather was a rocket scientist in Woomera, he died of several cancers early in life, they simply didn't know.

Atmospheric nuclear testing is one the reasons why cancer rates have skyrocketed. The government likes to blame smoking and other lifestyle choices but that's all bulls***. Cars and industry release millions of times more carcinogens into our environment in a single second than all the cigarettes ever smoked and ever will be smoked.

FFS Gamer. Get your facts sorted. Maybe you could start by changing the title of the thread to something not completely bulls***.

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_testing

Nuclear testing by country

Over 2,000 nuclear explosions have been conducted, in over a dozen different sites around the world.

"Baker Shot", part of Operation Crossroads, a nuclear test by the United States at Bikini Atoll in 1946
The nuclear powers have conducted more than 2,000 nuclear test explosions (numbers are approximated, as some test results have been disputed):
United States: 1,054 tests by official count (involving at least 1,151 devices, 331 atmospheric tests), most at Nevada Test Site and the Pacific Proving Grounds in the Marshall Islands, with 10 other tests taking place at various locations in the United States, including Amchitka Alaska, Colorado, Mississippi, and New Mexico (see Nuclear weapons and the United States for details).[5]
Soviet Union: 715 tests (involving 969 devices) by official count,[6] most at Semipalatinsk Test Site and Novaya Zemlya, and a few more at various sites in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.
France: 210 tests by official count (50 atmospheric, 160 underground[7]), four atomic atmospheric tests at C.E.S.M. near Reggane, 13 atomic underground tests at C.E.M.O. near In Ekker in the then-French Algerian Sahara, and nuclear atmospheric tests at Fangataufa and nuclear undersea tests Moruroa in French Polynesia. Additional atomic and chemical warfare tests took place in the secret base B2-Namous, near Ben Wenif, other tests involving rockets and missiles at C.I.E.E.S, near Hammaguir, both in the Sahara.
United Kingdom: 45 tests (21 in Australian territory, including nine in mainland South Australia at Maralinga and Emu Field, some at Christmas Island in the Pacific Ocean, plus many others in the United States as part of joint test series)[8]
China: 45 tests (23 atmospheric and 22 underground, at Lop Nur Nuclear Weapons Test Base, in Malan, Xinjiang)[9][10]
India: Six underground tests (including the first one in 1974), at Pokhran[citation needed].
Pakistan: Six underground tests, at Ras Koh Hills, Chagai District and Kharan Desert, Kharan District in Balochistan Province[citation needed].
North Korea: two tests at Hwadae-ri

Atmospheric nuclear testing is one the reasons why cancer rates have skyrocketed.

A geiger counter is an easy thing to acquire. Take the reading for yourself, and then compare it to the published safe levels of environmental radioactivity. Test the soil, your food (especially fish and meat since they are on top of the food chain).

I guarantee that you'll get a reading an order of magnitude or two in the safe zone.

Now stop and think REALLY HARD about this. Is the entire nuclear science community involved in a conspiracy to cover up dangerous levels of nuclear fallout, or are you drifting into faceman territory?

Bit harsh hey?

Also this thread is stupid. These things were conducted years ago when barely anyone knew what cancer was and smokes were being sold to kids by the bucket load. Now we know the side effects of nuclear testing and we have pretty much banned atmospheric testing in Australia. But hey, let's just jump on the hate bandwagon because that's cool.

Absolutely!

The easiest way to separate the ignorant morons from those who actually watch the documentary :)

Regarding the last quarter of the documentary where they discuss moving nuclear waste from Lucas Heights to Maralinga, check out how much distance and how many towns they want to ship it through via road.

Pretty amazing that this is the first time the Federal government is going to over-ride a state ruling on land use etc.

Radiation is everywhere...

This is the reason that you get a small radiation dose when you take an airplane flight. Planes fly at altitudes of several miles, though fortunately the length of a flight is only a few hours. A typical dose rate is 0.5 mrem per hour of flight.

A banana equivalent dose is a whimsical unit of radiation exposure, informally defined as the additional dose a person will absorb from eating one banana. It may be sometimes abbreviated as BED.

You naturally contain Potassium, Carbon-14, and other radionuclides. This makes you radioactive. To the tune of around 40 mrem a year. Other people are also radioactive, so you get slight doses from being around other people as well.

And to finish off whoring google

Nuclear weapons fallout is estimated to be less than 1 mrem a year.
Watching TV gives you a dose of about 1 mrem a year.

How would you have them move it? Contrary to what you believe they won’t be shipping the waste in steel 44 gallon drums irradiating the countryside as it passes through. Why don’t you take a page from you own book and do some research into how radioactive waste is transported instead of spouting ignorance? I can promise you this, any concerns you have thought of have been mitigated as much as possible along with some you would never have thought of.

Yes it did track people....on the ground. RAAF policy ended up being to turn it off until airborne.

check out how much distance and how many towns they want to ship it through via road.

What's the relevance of the distance and how many towns are involved? It's not sitting there spewing radiation into the air as it's going along.

Oh I forgot, you're letting your mouth-frothing emotions block any intake of logic or scientific fact.

lol, indeed.

Sumul and Zen posted the two specific pieces I'd seen in recent months on the subject.

It's worth pointing out Zen that the section on that radiation chart specifically dealing with the Japanese Nuclear power Fukashima were 'out of date' only a few days after that was posted (and the reason it was made and posted).

I don't recall the specifics but Fukashima suffered from a number of catastrophic failures, and a few days after this it became properly unsafe to be anywhere near. (resulting in Australia's getting involved to organise flights to evac any Australian residents who wished to leave.)

I thought Gamer's account had been hacked by Faceman for a minute there... but I see what's going on now...
We're sticking to the Sith 'rule of two'.
If faceman were here to see this tho, I'm pretty sure he'd just say "I find your lack of sources and knowledge disturbing"

I wasn't getting dramatical stating that anyone died at Fukashima. Just pointing out that the statements of radiation on that image aren't particularly accurate when it comes to radiation levels discussed at Fukashima.

You do seem awfully quiet about the rest of the thread tho Faceman.

not according to some of your posts in the past, where you've linked graphs and whatnot that you seem to think actually deny noteworthy change at all. yet now here you are popping up when you spot something else you think might cause change, seemingly forgetting that you've done that.

do you believe in climate change or not
