Anyone on here ever play this game?
Australia had a pretty vibrant if relatively small community at one stage.

Bit of a longshot but I thought some of the older QGLers may have played it.
I used to play under the nick "FUM" among others. Played in a clan for a while, but mostly with mates in online free-for-all.

Holler!

I didn't play it online, but I certainly remember the game.

Surprisingly solid game considering the shock value.

Yeah it was pretty f***ing cool back in the day. From memory didn't it get banned in some places because it was 1 of the first games to have swearing in it? Would like to see another game in this series.

You can get it on Good Old Games.

Was it the one where he says "I will f*** you the f*** up" constantly? I remember playing the start, but never got very far because my mainboard or videocard died and it was awhile until I could game again.

King Pin was such an awesome game and even the multiplay was good as well. Another awesome game I miss is Drakan. WoW gameplay reminds me a lot of it.

Hmmm...must be American made!

Kingpin was pretty cool. Best ever flamethrower animation for its time. Multiplayer rocked - remember playing some kind of cash grab mode...

It even got released in Australia with an MA15 rating. I wonder if the same sort of game was classified now, whether it would still get through.

That was CTF mode called "Bagman" and instead of a flag you carried a bag overflowing with cash.
You could raid the opposing team's safe and at the same time had to guard your safe full of loot.

Mr Damage was the Australian "keeper of the flame", maintaining a site called Poisonville and updating mappacks long after the Aussie community died off. You can check out his site here:

I have been doing a bit of reading about it - old reviews etc.
It looks like there were plans to produce some sort of Kingpin/Q3 type game as late as September last year but the news seems to have gone quiet.

So many great memories playing this online multiplayer, particularly the battles to grab the HMG clip as it respawned (giving the player a faster fire rate + additional damage IIRC). The HMG was pretty much the weapon of choice in online MP, although spamming grenades or hucking a few well placed rockets always resulted in a satisfying spray of blood and gibs.

I just tried to load my copy of the CD but it doesn't read, presumably due to the game being too old to work with my PC. Same thing happens with my original Quake disc. Might check out the GOG version for an old school reminisce, although without active MP it's probably not going to be quite the same.

I remember the night I finally got this game working (I had all sorts of problems with my video card at the time) I stayed up until 3 or 4 am playing and slept through my alarm. I was supposed to open the video shop at 9am and got woken by a call from my manager from a different location at about 9.30 asking where I was. Embarassing to rock up and find a bunch of people slightly pissed that they had to wait for the shop to open, but it was totally worth it clearing the streets of scum with my lead pipe and pistol til the wee hours.

I remember anime chicks bathing in waterfalls and them pulling out uzi's when you talked to them, offering to soap up their tits. I dunno though I feel this game never got anywhere near as much attention as what the other build games have. Then again even this got a GL port while Blood, the best build game, just faded away. Heard something about losing the source code to it but surely now that wouldn't matter. Least there is GoG and dosbox so it isn't lost to time. I'm still hunting on ebay for an original Blood game with the box and all.

original Blood game

DM knows where it's at...

First FPS (that I know of) that had an in-game announcer....

*Smash dude with napalm launcher... so bad that his dismembered head lands on the ground so it can be kicked about like a soccer ball* Announcer: SODOMIZED!

Also, both Blood and Duke3D (and for the most part Shadow Warrior too) had the best variety of weapons for multiplayer... I recall setting booby traps of remote detonated mines (or pipe bombs in duke) and then using Proxy mines (or laser trip mines in duke) and absolutely pasting my opposition in those games... I've never found such a good variety of weapons in a multi-player FPS since :(

How about Sin? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_(video_game)

Used to have an awesome multiplayer level where everyone was small and you were in the one big room with a bookcase on each side and a coffee table in the middle and you could hide behind the books and crap. Awesome sniper riffle too! Man we played the crap out of that level at lans. Aways a huge favourite.

Do you want to wash Wang or do you want to watch Wang wash Wang?!!! Classic line from that game haha.

I loved the era of fps's from Quake to Quake 2. Take me back please! Everything bores me these days. Though I'm playing Deathspank atm and enjoying it for what it is.

Haha I bought it on Steam and finished it only a few month ago, was mildly amused. I remember buying it years ago and having to play it with the sound turned down, lest my 'rental's come in and take said game off of me.

Have you tried installing lately? My guess is probably not...

I tried cos I thought it might be cool to check out the game again but it won't install. I get the splash screen and click "install Kingpin" and then nothing happens.

Same with Quake. Are these old games too old for new computers? Why wouldn't they work? Drivers?
Anyone tried to fix/had these issues with old games? I thought at least it would install. The disc looks ok (i.e. not scratched).

I am running:
XP
Intel E6550 Dual Core
4G RAM
Geforce 6600 GT

i.e. not exactly cutting edge but certainly more than capable of running a game from the late Jurassic period.

Haha I bought it on Steam and finished it only a few month ago, was mildly amused. I remember buying it years ago and having to play it with the sound turned down, lest my 'rental's come in and take said game off of me.

If I buy it off Steam can I mod it i.e. run all the add on skins and maps etc?
Would consider a bash on MP if Steam supports it.

The KingpinQ3 maps look ok but I have no idea if there is any infrastructure available to host play MP. Will investigate if I can get the damn game working.

*Bump* to say I loaded Kingpin, patched it, loaded Monkey Mod client and it's all working fine and I even have a server up on Gamespy Lite if anyone is interested in having a bash at MP.
I put it together so Mission and I can play some old school DM, and I doubt anyone much even has this game anymore but if you do and you want to "bury some muthaf***as" PM me for details or head to www.kingpinforever.com to get started.
My KP nick is FUM (The f***you Man - taken from Eddie Murphy's stand up show "Delirious").

Frag on.
