i was wondering if somebody could PLEASE shed some light on as to why my Rocket arena 3 isn't working. i have the latest point release and everything. when i goto start/programs/rocket arena 3 and launch the game, it launches normal Quake 3 arena. whenever i try and join an online game, even throught server query, it says that the server uses protocol version 45. how on earth do i fix this?

As far as I know, the server still uses PR1.17, not 1.27 yet. They're waiting on the linux release of 1.27 for the server.

Heh

While we're at it...

I have a burnt copy of Quake 3 arena for lanning.

Just recently i found out that RA3 doesn't need a cd key to play on the net... which explains why i could those many weeks back when it first came out.

But here's the funny bit... my cd key is generated, yet i could play ra3 plus ALL of the standard quake mods on the net.

All of a sudden, NONE of my quake 3 mods work on the net, no matter how many keys i generate nor how many times i reinstall.

I wanna play at least ra3 goddammit

Einstein: I heard a rumour that iD scrapped their master authentification servers cause they cost too much.

Bottom line - no cd key required any more.

But that was just what I heard someone say a few days ago...

Nice double post there cerb =)

If they scrapped their auth servers...

WHY THE f*** IS IT GIVING ME THE INVALID CDKEY BS

And umm, no big surprise iD can't afford anything, the romero god went elsewhere and they released a s***kunt game like quake 3.

Sorry guys, i really don't like that game and never have... right back to before Q3 IHV =)

IMHO Quake 3 is a failure, a sequel should always be a facelift, not a revamp.

If you revamp you end up with a totally different game and then you are left in the dark as to how people will like the new product.

If you facelift, you will have the dedication from the prequel's players to buy a sweeter looking version of their favourite game, not something new and gay by their favourite game company.

Quake 2 ---> Quake 3
Diablo ---> Diablo 2

Anyone see which one was a facelift and which was a revamp... hmm?

You sheep sicken me!

PS I rant often about quake 3 being a f***ed game so ignore me if you're an aforementioned sheep, lest you be ranting at me for no reason for days on end =P

You f***wits have no life =)

Yeh, pretty interesting double post, especially in that it only counted as 1 more post to my number of posts...

Anyway, as I said, that was all I heard someone say while I was on a server one day. Sort of made sense to me - like when the Quake 2 patches began to lack the cd check in them. I figured they may have been scrapping the auth servers in preparation for the Team Arena release, but who knows...

The auth server has been down for a while, which is why everyone has been getting auth'd. Obviously for the release of Team Arena, they've been working real hard on making it work again :)

If you don't think the game is 'good enough' to buy, don't play it.

I agree. I don't buy many games, but after borrowing a cd key to play on the QGL CTF server late last year, I went out and bought it just for the cd key. :)

Oh, and a guy in a Harvey Norman shop is all like "oh, Unreal Tournament is better than Quake 3. If you want good gameplay, buy that" And I tried to say (as politely as possible) UT is ghey and I already play q3 online, so screw you and give me quake. I ended up going elsewhere and managed to rip of EB $30! :)

asif u would ever take any advice ever given by a harvey norman sales rep. like i walked in there to buy me a joystick. and i asked the guy how much it would cost. and he started crapping on about why i should get a mouse instead of a joystick. after telling him as inpolitelly as i could he was a f***stick. i walked right outa there
