It's not happening now when I reaccess the page. When I clicked the icon it didn't give any noticeable reason to worry. Said the certificate was valid and using two hundred and something bit encryption.

Oh now I remember, it mentioned that while the security was valid, some items on the page were not covered by it, and hence could be altered in transport to alter the functionality of the page. But it seems to be gone for good now.

I'm on the dev channel, which is already up to version 7. It's always been totally stable for me, so I keep using it.

I get update server not available (error 3) in chrome's about box. Could this be because I deleted the googleupdate.exe file I found pretty much constantly running in the backgroud?

I got rid of googleupdate at some stage. Was still able to upgrade. Is probably just overload.

What's really annoying is the dragon age service required to be running to load games with dlc. It's not like I'm going to be playing that game on a regular basis, but if I open it I bloody well better be able to load my save game.

I prefer the new colour scheme.

As Whoop said. If every dev and his dog was happy to start attaching permanent processes, modern computing power would quickly go to waste and we'd be back where we started.

Kind of this. I shut down every windows service I don't use and delete all the start up registry entries for stuff as well. The thing with the google updater is it's a bastard to stop running. You delete the registry key and it magically puts it back again and I don't like programs f***ing with my registry and it makes me cranky @ google for being a******s trying to dictate how I use my PC.

If I wanted them to tell me how I use my OS I'd use a google made OS but I'm using windows and only MS gets to tell me what to do, well MS and your mums.

WTF do you need another windows service for just to allow you to sign in to a bloody messaging program? I find it much easier to just let Google Updater do its thing. My computer was actually made within this century, so it manages with it just fine.

Simple solution: Use the vastly superior Digsby or Pidgin.
