http://io9.com/5599251/check-out-the-full-thor-trailer-and-get-hammered

It's a "leak" at the moment so not the best quality. I've never read comic books but I must say, this gets the inner scifi/fantasy/mythology geek within me excited.

Hmm, that didn't really do anything for me. Maybe it was just the quality of that trailer but overall it looked sorta boring.

Given the choice of director, and the comments about its style, I am expecting something closer to Ang Lee's 2003 take on the Hulk. Which is no doubt going to piss a lot of people off, and have me very pleased.

The costumes and set design sure do make it seem more like a cheesy sci-fi movie than what I would expect from a Thor movie. Compared to the Iron Man films it seems pretty amateur really. Proceeding with low expectations.

personally i always thought thor was pretty lame and his background story was pretty lame, this movie turns lame into mediocre, which is ok by me

That was long and uninteresting. The most I'd prolly do is pick him as character in marvel vs capcom 3 for a few minutes but none of this 2 hour bulls***.

Holy f***ing s***. I didn't know Kenneth Branagh directed it. It's almost worth watching it now seeing as that guy kicks a serious amount of ass.

Biggest downer is Natalie Portman, so annoying!

Also thought Thor was Heath ledger, but remember he's dead.

This trailer made me wonder what the the first successful comic based film in recent times which has caused this chain reaction in hollywood superhero movies? Was it batman begins? Spiderman? Xmen? It just seems like they are running out of superheroes and are resorting to s***ier lesser known ones. Who's or what's next? A heman remake?

the first superman film was in 1978 & it was successful at the time :p
i dunno either what suddenly made hollywood spit out a heap of super hero type movies... but i rekn it's just coz they know they'll get the comic fan's to at least see the movie once! :p the majority of movies coming from hollywood these days seem to be based on 'safe' stories that will guarantee bums on seats.

tbh the only comic to movie that i would give props is sin city. the rest are all pretty average imo.

it was probably the xmen movie followed by the spider-man movie that started it all. also thor isnt a lesser known superhero.

I reckon the original Blade is a good comic book movie. Having such a great cast helped too.

There have been quite a few good ones; the first two X-Men movies by Bryan Singer for example were really good.

haha!

Wait that's not funny, you merely planted the seed into my mind in the form of an inception.

Better than facing the harsh reality of a Heman remake i guess :/

Whatever you do, don't wake me up.

Marvel and Stan Lee came to some sort agreement, and he stopped being a prick about it or something.

First 2 X-men were good, first 2 spiderman movies were good, both Iron Men were good, First 2 blades were good.

Anyone else seeing a pattern here? Seems once they hit movie 3 they take a plunge into the s***ter.

Yes Blade three was crap but Jessica Biel was nice to watch to waste away the time.

Yeah xmen 2 and spiderman 2 were fantastic, yet the thirds were atrocious.

blade 3 was good. Cheesy by good. Ryan Reynolds hadn't played the same character in every movie back then.

I'm a good judge of this sort of thing.

Indeed, Green Lantern!

Then there's Captain America: The First Avenger.

To answer the question on 'why so many superhero movies?' - Marvel formed Marvel Studios, making themselves an independant movie studio entity and divorcing from Sony Pictures (Spider-man). The intention was to create a string of superhero films that culminates with the Avengers movie project, which will be directed by Joss Whedon and star pretty much every Marvel superhero (sans Fantastic Four, X-men and Spidey) that has a movie out since the 2000s. Namely, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye...essentially every 'single hero' movie contains S.H.E.I.L.D. references with Nick Fury and/or Agent Colson (sp?).

Rumor has it that the Avengers movie will focus on the Infinity Gauntlet storyline...and the big bad just might be Thanos. Pretty awesome if they can pull it off.

Then there's the likely-to-be-awful X-Men: First Class and Spider-man reboots. And another s***ty Wolverine movie. No word on the viability of the Magneto prequel movie.

Meanwhile, DC is working on Green Lantern, Batman "3" (or "7" if you're counting all the movies), Flash, and some Superman project. Have heard some chatter about them aiming for a Justice League of America project too, to compete against the Avengers movie. So don't be surprised if you see an inkling in the Green Lantern movie.

So yeah, if you hate comic book movies...too bad. They're here to stay now. You can thank that overrated Dark Knight movie (and Iron Man to a lesser extent) for this trend. :P

Looking forward to the Deadpool movie. By the sounds of it it won't focus on that crappy deadpool at the end of Wolverine but one based on the comics.

And its been confirmed Deadpool will break the forth wall and talk to the audience like he does in the comics.
