Under the Vic hoon laws, if you're caught "hooning" 3 times your car gets impounded and crushed. Today some unlucky Commodore met Mr. Crusher after being confiscated under said hoon laws - Then the Vic Police videoed the entire thing to show off to the internet:
Crushing a Hoon Car from Victoria Police on Vimeo. Squishy McSquish squish! |

There's more to the laws than that, as the page for that video explains:
Now, when a vehicle is deemed unroadworthy, unsafe or does not meet a minimum four star safety standard, it will be given to the State Emergency Service (SES) for training purposes before being destroyed. |

They should have just confiscated the car and sold whatever they could from it instead of just destroying it.

They should have had the owner watching it getting crushed then gone over and given him back the keys. |

This was a terrifically great PR stunt for them; it's all over the Interwebs and media. My first thought too was "why didn't they sell it", but fortunately JJJ had me covered; they interview one of the police dudes who gave the (in retrospect, obvious) response that the car wasn't deemed roadworthy. Though I'm sure the PR factor weighed heavily in their decision here. |

They should have just confiscated the car and sold whatever they could from it instead of just destroying it.That's what they do with the safe/roadworthy cars. heh I was going to say they could have sold it and given the cash to a charity or a victims support group (people who've been injured by hoons or what not). If it was unroadworthy they could have still sold it for scrap. This was purely a publicity stunt and nothing else, I believe it was the first car in Aus to be crushed? |

If it was unroadworthy they could have still sold it for scrap.Crushed cars get recycled for scrap metal. They're crushed first so they're easier to store and transport. |

I don't think anyone is going to cry about a VT commodore being crushed. They were trash from the factory floor, the VE+ on the other hand are actually pretty good cars.

Thread hijack. I have a stock VX commodore (red) I have decided to do some work too instead of getting rid of it. Might as well get some enjoyment out of it. Yes haha im doing up a commy lol lol.... Currently selecting wheels to be fitted before i drop it with some king springs. Then after that throw an exhaust on. Going for either of these, need some opinions on what would look better. Not to be pedantic, but it's the second one they've crushed under the aforementioned laws. They have dozens more lined up but haven't crushed them due to red tape, laws were changed this week to fix that, so in theory there will be plenty more to follow, other then the ones that pass safety checks and get sold off to stop waste or cover bank ownership. (in the case of loans) |
