Hey guys

I need to format friends computer as they have virus. now i cant load windows as it says missing windows file. so i have put it in external cady and pluged into my computer so i can copy the information accross. Now he has office xp but cant find the cd key. is there a program that can scan the hard drive for hte cd key??? i know there is one while you are on the computer but is there one that you can do from external hard drive?

The app analyzes a machine's weak points, looking at elements such as whether antivirus software is up to date, or whether all the security flaws in Windows have been patched. It uses the Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark test to give the computer a score showing its overall security level, and produces a report that can be viewed in a Web browser.

If you want security auditing why not use the one MS provide? MBSA. It gives links to the hotfixes and service packs it finds are missing.

It doesn't show you any cd keys though as far as I know but it's good for finding security holes warning you when your admin password is blank.

Belarc is great for 1 PC/server.
If you want to do a network audit, for example (audit software on domain PC's and report to a network share) you could use INA or SIW.
