It's because you are posting stuff that falls so easily into the 'internet retard' catagory (nostradamus, mayan 2012 thing) and basically people are sick of having to cringe with pity everytime they read it.

Easy fix. Don't post to the thread and let it fall off the front page.

But i guess that would be the smart thing to do and smart isn't something that I would associate with people who complain that certain content exists on a public forum when they help to keep it 'alive' by contributing to it.

I don't think I can say that any clearer for those dumbs***s that are trying to effect me by posting your useless crap remarks. I grew up on the net, your trolls and bulls*** is white noise to the anti-bulls*** section of my brain.

No, i have absof***inglutely no idea what you just said.

Yeah but it's too late, we've already read it.

We may as well have some fun and poke fun at the stupid person posting it. It can be enjoyable to watch them try and defend their ridiculous position.

Because we trust these scientists to understand it enough to say it's safe. If they get it wrong, we've prematurely ended our lives. That's something we can prevent.

Pro-tip: leave the science for grown-ups.
even if you happen to be right about something its purely coincidental.

Yeah the Infinite Monkey Theorem applies here.

can someone link to these final 12 pictures of nostradamus?

Here mate

and...

Here is a quick google result for a counter-argument page to the above posted site to see the flip side. (I haven't been able to read it entirely - goto get my youngling fed and bathed ready for bed)

The exact definition of 4chan or trolling and similar. One day you'll realise your surrounded by idiots with no conversational or intellectual traits to hold a decent conversation with. It's then you will realise that you attract into your world what you put out.

It can be enjoyable to watch them try and defend their ridiculous position.

It's sometimes great to check your opinion by hearing others. That's why we all talk about random s*** on forums.

I think the real thing your trying to identify though is the fact you gain enjoyment at seeing someone put down/flamed and generally trying to derail a forum thread. If that's the case then you should understand that has absolutely no impact on me what so ever, as I said, I'm well aware how internet discussion often works. It's up to the forum moderators to make the decision if they want threads derailed all because someone is trying to amuse themselves.

You and I do not have control over the LHC, so why are you in fear? The scientists can fear it because they have control over it (except they don't fear it because there is nothing to fear), but I'd prefer them to RESPECT it, because fear generally makes people irrational, which is when a lot of avoidable mistakes start to occur.

Yeah good point.

While I realise the scientists obviously don't want to die and want to enjoy their fame/wealth from the great experiment they are doing to progress humanity. I'm fearful because I believe their experiment - if they get it wrong would effect the world. Would effect me. So a small portion of uncertainty and doubt arises especially when combined with the Nostradamus stuff that in my mind - the jury is still out on since it's so interpretive.

Not making the decisions for the LHC is probably why the small amount of fear exists. Starting thinking about the possibility of life ending in 2012 and the perhaps coincidental maximum run of the LHC during 2012 and you have tow things that you could dry a very skety conclusion to.

The two of course might be complety unrealted, or they could be related. No one knows. Anyone looking at both the prediction and the timeline of the LHC runup to finalise in 2012 might still be a little fearful.

After all, anything that you don't control and are at the mercy of most people would be fearful. Fear is what drives us as humans. Every time we make a decision we compare the benefit vrs the risk, we make an evaluation to risk or not to risk. When we believe something to be risky I would argu that's because we're fearful of it despite it's great benefits (in this case, understanding our existence and perhaps the universe).

I fear that someone has looked at the benefits and is willing to see past the risks (and heinsite) and bad instead of good may come because of that.

That fear is therefore logical.

(Might be going around in circles haha - sorry about that - that's the best I can do)

So what exactly do you think could go wrong with the LHC that could affect all life on Earth?

well if nothing new is being added to it, what exactly is the point of going in circles?

gamer, I wasn't trying to "have some fun with this". The claim that Nostradamus predicted the future has been thoroughly debunked as absolute rubbish. The mayan's predicting the end of the world in 2012 has also been debunked as absolute rubbish. The possibility that the LHC will end the world has also been debunked as absolute rubbish.

Here are two questions for you:

1) If they turn off the LHC for the whole of 2012, what do you expect will bring about the end of the world / wil you still be worried about the world ending?

2) When 2013 swings by and the world hasn't ended as "predicted" (and by the way this doomsday foretelling has happened many times before and didn't come true - big surprise), will you then start planning to panic about some other date in the future when the world will end, or will you realise that it's stupid?

But Zy didn't you see those scientists in the movies and TV shows? They ignore the evidence and claims of certain people and put all our lives at risk for the sake of scientific discovery!

so my reply whenever someone says "The world will end in 201X!" I generally reply with "We'll discuss this in 201X+1".
oh great, way to loophole your way out of discussing it

If LHC wasnt online during that year I think the world would end a long long long time from now or never during the time we need it/live on it. (we'll find a solution to anything that comes our way - such as an asteroid).

I wouldnt be worried if that were the case because I feel the chance of something happening to end the world are pretty low. - It's feels weird to say that...

2) When 2013 swings by and the world hasn't ended as "predicted" (and by the way this doomsday foretelling has happened many times before and didn't come true - big surprise), will you then start planning to panic about some other date in the future when the world will end, or will you realise that it's stupid?

I suppose I'll realise that it's stupid and hope I wouldn't be fearful again. Once fooled twice shy? (hope i didn't massacre that quote).

Science is all about logical explanation, you'll get a lot of answers from there, whereas those who preach about the end of the world, 2012 and Nostradamus tend to want to sensationalize everything, bring out as many emotions as possible in you, and generally get all the attention they can. Both will talk to you, but which would you rather listen to?

So I'm seeing from what some have written is that your so confident that nostradamus's predictions are fake and that the LHC is being run by such competent bunch of people that you have no fear at all for the year 2012.

You're logic so trumps mine :(

Well done casa. Never thought of dragons when it came to 2012. Reign Of Fire style? (except with badly acted Van Zan sp?)

Haha, more rubbish. Luckily the laws of physics don't care about what you think or what bulls*** opinions you come up with.

Just because you come up with some random thought/idea doesn't mean it has any merit whatsoever. I think you've gone well over your unsupported speculation quota. Or maybe you're racking up your troll points?

Putting aside all arguments of whether Nostradmus was like the guy from Heroes who paints the future, its still entirely illogical and irrational to be fearing the end of the world in 2012. Theres such a remote chance of something happening that could ACTUALLY cause the end of the world, and its so far out of your control if it did happen, that theres really no point at all in wasting time even thinking about it let alone fearing it.

When you start fearing such statistically insignificant things as this, where do you stop? Do you become one of those people too scared to go outside because you might get hit by a car, or killed by a drive by shooting, or blown up in a terrorist attack? I'm sure theres millions of ways every day you could potentially die, but do you fear all of those things? Do you even think about those things?

Nostradmus and Mayan calendars and all the 2012 "End of the world" stuff is entertaining, I enjoy it, I don't put any stock in it, but its one of those things I enjoy reading about as a kind of oddity. But when you let it start actually impacting your life, when you're sitting there genuinely fearing you only have 2 years left to live, you need to maybe re-evaluate stuff. If you geuinely believe it, then don't sit around fearing for the end of the world, put everything you've got into making the next 2 years the most awesome 2 years ever!
